Default I think I need another stock

Hello, I think I should get another stock for my TC barrel. Here's the deal, I bought a 54 Hawken a couple years ago and then purchased an extra barrel from Green Mountain. they both have 1" flats, I want another muzzleloader, but instead, I was thinking, why not find a good used Hawken or Renegade stock, and put the extra barrel on that. Ive been watching e-bay but nothing catches my eye. most of the stocks are 15/16 which really does me no good. My question is is this a stupid idea? And wouldit make sense to build around my extra barrel with a used stock, and misc parts from other striped Thompson Center rifles? Your thoughts please.
Thanks again. Steve

Doesn't sound dumb to me. Another stock and lock would give you a whole 'nother gun.
I bet you could cobble together sumpin good.

I always have an eye out for a reasonable T/C sidelock that will accept Green Mountain Barrels. Sometimes people will sell the rifles when they forget to care for the barrel thinking the rifle is junk and of no value. When they hit the auctions I often times buy them very reasonable. Although I have not seen one show up in a long time.

Why can't you buy the 15/16 stock and fit the 1 inch barrel to it???
Just make up some scrapers and get some lamp black or a candle and remove the excess barrel channel...

I wonder.. if you scraped that stock down, would it weaken the total stock strength?

Sounds like its about time to consider buying a roughcut [if you dont have many tools consider a deal where the barrel chanle is already cut]peice of nice tiger stripe maple and learning to make one. Lee

I just bought a GM barrel for my TC Hawken FL. I have been watching ebay also and the stocks W/O the hardware are going at about $100. Add to that the HW for the stockat about $50, a new lock atfrom L&R Lock for about $117and you have about $250 into the gun when you consider shipping. So my opinion is to give the barrel away to someone who wouldenjoy putting together a gun---say a Boy Scout for the ML Merit Badge--and allow them to buy the Kit for a stock from here:

http://www.gun-parts.com/hawkenstocks/at $140 unfinished

and the Lock from here (these are the best locks---ball bearing used in the lock--used by RMC Sports in their BEAUTIFUL FL guns---www.rmcsports.com):

http://www.lr-rpl.com/ at $117.

I have put together several guns by aquiring parts... it was a lot easier before e-bay got Hillari-ized, because you could always find the parts. It would be my suggestion you look for TC renegade stocks they are all channeled for a 1" barrel. Might go to the classified section of each ML sight and put an add in "Want to Buy" and see what you come up with...

Years ago I bought a T/C NewEnglander .50 cal.
Later I added a 12ga barrel.
Then I found a camo synthetic stock.
I had a spare trigger and tang for the hooked breechin my parts box.
The I found a lock on eBay.
Now I have 2 complete NewEnglanders!

Not a bad idea at all. You have two guns with interchangable parts, so you can be assured of always having one of them working even if you would happen to break something.
