If you guys can believe it I still have Christmas money inmy pocket. Iwant to get a traditional rifle, either FL or percussion cap. Not sure whichone yet. I landed at theOctober Country Store and found this rifle:
I've purchased a lot of supplies from them. And always had excellent service. I never purchased a rifle from them. If I bought another traditional rifle, that would be the one I would look at but in a flintlock... As Semisane about his Great Plains Rifle (not the hunter). The GPH with the fast twist is said to be an excellent conical and sabot shooter.

Hey Cayugad,
As ofnow I havea sweet Investarms Hawkins Carbine whichhas a 1 in 24" twist and shoot a .54 cal. Barnes sabot and loveit. I am more interested inshooting PRB and got interestedin this rifle due to the 1 in 60" twist. I know that the ad mentions a fast twistrate, but isn't a 1 in 60" more suited for PRB?
Hey Sabotloader,
If asyou say they are somewhat highin price, doyou recommend anyotherplaces to look?
Thanks guys.

I'm not positive, but something may be wrong with their description.
The Hunter Model is listed with a fast 1 in 32" twist on another site, and the 1 in 60" slow twist Traditional Modelis shown withtraditional sights. Thehunter sight itselfis probably an option purchased separately, but isn't legal forblack powder competition since only "open" sights are. So it probably wouldn't be placed on aLymanslow twist rifle built to "traditional" factory specificationsIMO.
This is one of the cheapest places on the net, but they sell so manyrifles that they have already reacted to the lastest price increases. Other places may still have old stock. Walmart used to beable to order these fromcatalog sales taken at the gun counter, butMidsouth isreally one ofthe best outfits, if not the most popular one usually with thebest pricesto buy from.
Thanks articap, but Iwent to Midway and they have this one listed:
Lyman Great Plains Black Powder Rifle 50 Caliber Flintlock Wood Stock 1 in 60" Twist 32" Barrel Blue. Priced at $482, but with my birthday special I can get it for $425.
I am still waiting for a call back from a guynamed Johnfrom OctoberrCountry co.to get a checkonhis price for thesame gun.

Normally I would agree withyouMidway wouldn't,but it is my birthday this month and they are giving me a special sale offer on my order. Thatis why I am getting the gunfor $425. Midsouth wants $435.
Now I also need some additional supplies and after I make an order for the bunch of stuff, I am getting one hellava sale. I am getting ready to make the order now.
