I don't muzzleloader hunt, yet! I am curious, though all the ads I see are for TC encores etc.....all with the ability to swap barrels for rifles, shotguns etc.... and to me this seems cheap, like of a low quality nature. Does anyone make a quality modern muzzleloader that doesn't swap barrels etc....somethign nice/quality, if i buy a muzzleloader it's going to be to muzzleloader hunt with, I have a shotgun, I have a rifle, I don't need or want 1 gun to do it all. Is this more of an option and something I shouldn't worry about or is my suspicion right? Anyone else have this feeling about all the muzzleloaders being advertised? I have yet to see an ad for a nice/premium muzzleloader, do they exist?
The rifles that swap out barrels is an option for those that want one rifle for everything or just like to play. Most muzzle loaders do not swab out barrels unless of course you want to. If you want a good muzzle loader that does not swap barrels and want to shoot sabots at distances, then a Thompson Center Triumph, T/C Omega, T/C Black Diamond XR, Knight KRB7 which is a Rolling Block model, or the Knight Disc Extreme. Get a .50 caliber, work up a load and start to practice. You will then see the challenge that a lot of us have seen and enjoy. There are also other many fine rifles out there. I only named a few.

Thanks for the info, good to know, just seems like the main marketing tool is, 1 gun for everything, and I understand that appeal to some, but to me it's a big turnoff. Just like I don't have 1 rifle to hunt everything, I also would rather save/spend my money wisely on something very nice, than having a few just plain/avg rifles. To each their own, just stating my philosophy. Plus something you're going to have a while/pass on generations.
Well don't get me wrong.. the rifles that change out barrels are very nice rifles. The muzzleloader end of them is just something else they are offering to steal some market share. If I really wanted to have a rifle to pass down through the ages, I would get a nice sidelock with some excellent wood, and then hunt with that. While it might limit some of the options the new modern inlines have, there is nothing an inline rifle can do,that a side lock can not also do. And it is hard to beat a nice piece of wood.

Personally I dont care for swapping barrels myself. Yes there are good quality muzzleloaders, the best of them are #1 Triumph #2Omega #3 the Knight KRB7; or if you prefer traditional a Renagade or Firestorm, Lyman has a decant Hawken for a good priceif you prefer. Lee
I understand your concern about something being advertised as a jack-of-all-trades is usually a piece of junk. the Encore is one serious rifle though, muzzleloader or otherwise. That being said all the major brands have high quality rifles, I prefer T/C but there are many other good choices
First muzzleloader I had was a Knight American Knight. Cost about $99. Shot it once and got a 7 pointer... As long as the barrel is good it don't matter the cost...
And as far as the TC Encores they are a quality product. IL is a shotgun only state for deer hunting isn't it. What rifles are you talking about?
