Default English or Irish?

Hello all. I am thinking about getting a shot pouch for shotgun shot. What I am seeing is that the dispensers seem to come in two flavors: Englishand Irish.

Is there a particular advantage to one or the other? Is one or the other easier to use? From what little informationI have been able to find on these, the Irish seems kind of complicated and the English, very simple...?

I am probably going to order the pouch from October Country. So any comments would be very helpful.

Thanks,
~Robert

Default RE: English or Irish?

I really can not recommend anything to you Robert. I use shot tubes. I pre measure out and carry about six tubes with me when I bird hunt. I never yet needed more then that. They fit in a coat pocket and are easy to use.

I looked at the shot bags on October Country.. very nice. I did not see a picture of the English version, but the Irish version looked pretty simple. That brass nose is a measure. You measure out how much you want and dump right from the bag... Although it looks like a lot of shot to carry in the field, that does not mean you have to fill it all the way up.

I think a person could make themselves one of them. Something for me to think on. All I would need is the brass measure, some epoxy glue, and leather, even an old leatherjacket... I wonder if I could make one out of an old leather hunting boot. Being a pack rat.. I never throw anything away and probably have a few of them somewhere around here.

I use an Irish style pouch & like it. If I remember right mine was a CVA pouch. Bought it off the local gun store clearance table for just a few $$$. I held way too much shot (7 or 8#) so I put the valve on an old leather ball pouch and now it only weighs about 3# when full. Still plenty of shot to have along and much easier to carry all day.

Gents:

Thanks for your replies. I will have to give OC a call and ask.

The English version looks like you woulduse a seperate measure whereas the Irish, like you said Cayugad, has it built in. That might be theeasier way to go.

Both of you are right, I don't think I would fill thethingup. Way too heavy to be carrying around all day, especially for just a few rabbits.
