Default new mzl

hi all i am looking for advise for the future i bought a brand new tc pro hunter in .50 cal the first week of december and have yet to shoot it do to our weather and my work schedule my ? is do i need to do anything special for brake in or can i just start sighting in when the warmer weather arrives biggest reason i am asking is becouse of the cost of this gun setup i want to make sure i do things right thanks in advance

READ YOUR MANUAL! Make sure that you follow the before shooting cleaning instructions. once you do that load some pellets and blow some smoke.

Just don"t use bore butter for lubing the barrel use regular gun oil. Several forum members have had problems with bore butter. It is great for a bullet lubr but that is all. My pro hunter get just regular gun oil. Essox is what I like

i thought bore butter was used once your done cleaning the gun to prevent rust if not do you just oil up a dry patch and run it through a few times when would i actually use bor butter?

Leave the bore butter out of your rifle bore. Bore butter is for lubing conicals and some claim, for seasoning the older style rifles. Your Pro Hunter is modern steel. Why would it need seasoning, actually wax it? Clean the rifle real good according to the manual. Take a brass bore brush and be sure to solvent scrub the bore. T/C puts some good lube in there barrels to protect them while they are on store shelves. That solvent will take that all out. Then dry patch it clean. Then for storing, use a good quality GUN oil, like Rem Oil w/teflon, or my favorite.. Birchwood Casey Sheath a.k.a. Barricade. With a tight fitting patch swab the bore good spreading that oil deep into the rifling. Your rifle will be protected.

Before you shoot, take a patch and put some pure alcohol (isopropyl) or a combination of isopropyl alcohol and car windshield washer fluid, or even some Windex cleaner on a patch and then swab the barrel good. Then run a dry patch down the barrel to remove the cleaner. After that put another dry patch on the jag and push that to the bottom of the breech. Now pop a 209 primer through the breech plug. Pull the patch and check it for burn marks... If you have good burn, you're good to go.

Start with 100 grains of Pyrodex RS or Triple Se7en 2f and a 250 grain Shockwave. That should shoot well for you. Since you have a Pro Hunter, you could also try three pellets or 120 grains of loose powder with the same bullet and it should do very well.

Good luck with your rifle... The weather is a little ruff here today as well. It was -21ยบ this morning in Northern Wisconsin.

Clean the moving parts and bore to be sure it's clear of the oils from the factory. Then get to shooting once you're familiar with the operating mechanisms of the rifle.
