Default TC Black Diamond

I am a long time muzzle load hunter but am having problems sighting in my new 50 Cal TC Black Diamond. I presently shoot a 54 Cal TC Thunderhawk about 12 years old.I have bagged Elk and Deer with this rifle no problem. I shoot a 360 grain Keith nose Sabot with 110 grains of FF triple 7 in it. I have made kill shots at over 100 yards and can do a sub 1.5 inch pattern at 100 yards at the range. Yet this new TC Black Diamond just won't seem to come in for me. I even sent it back to TC for testing. They sent it back and said it was fine. I've tried from 70 grains of powder pushing a 240 grain bullet to 120 grains of powder pushing a 285 grain bullet and about everything in between.

Anyone out there know of a good load for the 50 cal. TC Black Diamond? I have the longer barrelin staineless steel.

Thanks, Steve

When I had mine I shot 105 gr of t7 2f and 300 gr shockwave and 300 gr xtps. Would shoot 1-11/2" groups at 100yds when I was up to it. Cayudad shoots the XR-he prolly can help Ya out. Thanks Kerry

100 grains of powder and a 250 grain Shockwave will normally shoot real well. I also have the XR model. With pellets I shoot three of them with a Shockwave and it does well. With loose powder I load 120 grains of Goex 2f or 110 grains of Triple Se7en 2f with the Shockwaves.

Some other good shooting projectiles I have found are the 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB, Nosler Partitian 260 grain, 300 grain Hornady XTP in an crushed rib sabot, 460 grain .503 diameter No Excuses conicals with 80 grains of powder under them...

If you're shooting off a rest, make sure you are rested on the stock and not the barrel. When I was shooting before off the barrel it would not hit anything... Also be sure and swab between shots.

I've posted these excerptsaboutsomeone's TC Black Diamond:

My TC Black Diamond in 22in barrel is by far my most accurate rifle.

I mostly shoot 240 gr bullets in sabots. My go to hunting load
in the only legal hunting (I own WA legal no 209 primers allowed)
TC Black Diamond w/musket caps is 80 grains of Triple 7 FFFg
with a Speer 240 gr .430 wadcutter in a sabot. Very accurate and
cheap to shoot! None of the guns are accurate with maximum loads.

If anyone is interested, the very best bullet I have found in terms
of accuracy is the Buffalo Bullet in yellow sabot 240 grain hollow
point boat tail. Tested in all three of my rifles. It is impossible to
beat. They come 32 to a box around $15.00 so they aren't cheap.

I have approximated this bullet using MMP sabots and Speer 240

grain semiwadcutters in lead. The Speers are $10.00 a hundred
and the sabots are $5.00 per 50. Damn close results.

It is Speer 44 CAL 240 GR .430 SWC #4660. You will find these
in the handloaders section at the sporting goods store. Also
Hornady and TC sabots can be found anywhere that has BP
supplies, I happen to like the MMP sabots the best. I buy the
MMP sabots sized .430 50 cal from cabelas. The bullet goes
in a sabot! They make great practice loads. I have found they
shoot very tight groups with 80 grains of T7. Same as my favorite
Buffalo bullet. The Buffalo bullet however will retain it's accuracy
with hotter loads than the Speer does.

Another one worth mentioning from Cabelas is the Precision Rifles
Dead Center Lead Bullet, w/plastic tip in orange sabot. that one
is 240 Dead Center .40/.50 caliber good long range choice.

The Speer for $10.00 a hundred is hard to beat.

The MMP sabots kind of remind me of the ones that are used in
the Buffalo Bullets. They have a consistant feel in loading. I
haven't had any problem having to pound them down. They are
similar to the Hornadys. The MMPs seem to work better with
the wadcutters and the Hornady TC type I like with jacketed
bullets. There isn't really a huge difference. The difference
may be more specific to what barrel you are using.

[/align]The 3 shots in the bull, low are my TC Black Diamond at 100 yds
(iron sights). The bull was a saboted wadcutter and the two lower
ones are Cabelas Deadcenters. The 2 groups up high were my Colt
Dragoon at 25 and 35 feet. I shot the Dragoon to a different point
of aim so as to not mess up the groups. I could shoot flies with that
thing!

Two T7 pellets in the TC, 45 grains of American in the Dragoon.

The third lowest shot, I pulled that one. It's funny the last time I
shot the rifle 2 weeks ago it was shooting 2 inches high at 50 yds
with 80 grains of FFFg. That was the reason I had to shoot one
100yd session. I wanted to check out last years T7 pellets to see
if they were still good after reading the other thread. I actually
think the 80 grains of FFFg is hotter than the 2 pellets. Everytime
I go shooting I end up with more questions than answers it seems!

Thanks tomarcseatac of TheFiringLine!

Thanks for all your information. Maybe now I can do something with this rifle. I am a hunter from Washington state so no scopes allowed. I shoot with a peep site. In response to Cayugad, I had not thought to make sure I was shooting off the stock and not the barrel. I am shooting off the stock now that I think about it. Could be the problem, I'll check it out this week sometime and let you all know what happens.

I already have some of therounds suggested so I ought to have an interesting outing at the range. I'll have to print all these responses off just to keep the info together.

Again thanks to you all. I'll let you know how things go.

That was from my Black Diamond XR which is scoped by the way, with a 1.5-4.5x32mm Bushnell Dusk to Dawn Scope. I was sighing it in. The first shot was high, I had one flier, and the rest behaved real well. Granted this is only 50 yards off a bench rest.

That was shooting my Black Diamond XR with some No Excuse Conicals. I note on the target that it was 100 yards. Well after I got my Bushnell Yardage Pro range finder, I learned it was only 88 yards. So if that made a difference, I am a lousy pace walker. This was during deer season. It was cold and wet out. I had taped a 3x5 inch colored index card to a box as a target and just X'd the corners with a magic marker. I was shooting off some shooting sticks. The small hole to the far right was from a 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB. I had been field hunting earlier and was going to head to a honey hole in a thicket so I wanted to change over to some 460 grain Conical bullets that I thought would be a better choice in the thickets. I decided to double check the load.

Good luck with your rifle. I will be looking for your future posts..

240gr XTP pushed by 2 777 pellets works excellent for me in my Black Diamond.
