The excitement that shows in his post (read "finally did it" by Mauser06 below) got me to thinking. I always love going out hunting with my Lyman Deerstalker 50 cal cap rifle. Pretty much use round ball exclusively. Don't have a flint lock. 2 years ago my brother-in-law gave me an Omega (stainless with scope and all). It's a real good rifle. Shoots pretty good too.
This past fall I shot 2 different Pro Hunter rifles. 7mm mag & a 270. I really liked that gun so I sold one of my rifles and the Omega to pay for the majority of the Pro hunter I now have on order (20 ga.). I planned on purchasing a ML barrel this spring. But now I'm thinking about maybe not.
I love shooting all weapons...bows (recurve, longbow, crossbow& modern bows) rifles, in-line ML's...just about anything. But to tell the truth I'm not sure hunting with an in line is for me. It just doesn't feel right.
I may just forego the ML barrel for my Pro Hunter and maybe pick up a flint lock rifle. Never owned one. Should be fun!
Am I nuts?

No your not nuts, it sorta like basketball, football, base ball and soccer. Some like only BB, some only soccer, some only basketball, some base ball and football, and some like them all. Your just finding your "niche" in hunting. Some like the challenge of a single shot, some are hooked on accuracy, some like bolt actions, some like pumps, some like FlintLocks and the challenge of not only a single shot, but a broadside single shot. So I would say "your just starting to understand yourself and how God gifted you". That does NOT happen in your 20's orearly 30's for mostguys, at least for me it didn't.

Not a chance... heck there were people that might have thought you were nuts when you first said you were going to hunt with a ML, but the most important thing was/is how did you feel about it.
I have a very good freind that thinks I am crazy for shelving the Tikka 300 win mag during rifle elk season - but what the heck - I feel good hunting with a ML..and it will be a great accomplishment to be successful with a ML - even if it is an inline... One day i will get one with a percussion also..

I think your nuts for getting rid of the Omega I love mine. But as far as hunting goes no each to their own. Don't you hate those guys that try to tell you how you shoud be hunting. I love doing my own thing too. As long as its legal I say do what you want to do and what makes you feel good.

Nah you're not crazy. In fact, i think you finally have seen the light and are doing the proper thing
It just feels like a part of you when you pick up a nicely built flintlock. My Great Plains rifle is just solid. Its not that barrel heavy, high prices tubbaware stocked inliner[8D]
Like Mauser found out, When it comes to muzzleloading, Its a great feeling when you're hunting with a flintlock during a cool late evening, see a deer and shoulder it, squeeze the trigger and feel the brush of heat against your face as the pan/rifle goes off.
Just to help give you the little push
This was my first Flintlock kill with my traditions kentucky .50cal flintlock. Sept 06
Buy them both. I use different rifles for different hunting situations. When I am strictly meat hunting I use my Sharp's(BPCR loads), and my flintlock. But when I am hunting for horns I use the most modern type of weapon that the season allows.
I have supreme confidence in my Knight LRH at 225 yards if a big buck steps out. But I know I could not shoot a buck that far with my Lyman flintlock. Tom.
