Default Shelf Life of Pyrodex?

I've had an unopenedpound of Pyrodex RS stashed away in a deep, dark recess of the bedroom closet for at least 10 years. Maybe 12. Anybody know if it would still be any good, or should I just dispose of it and start off fresh?

all you can do is try it.. but it should be good if it was stored right.

I finally got two brain cells rubbing together enough to generate a spark...[&:]

Went to the Hogdon website and did a little digging on Pyrodex. Found out that if I open up the can and smell an acrid, acidic odor then the powder has deteriorated. If not, then it's good. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Arthur ... thanks for the tip. I never knew that. Of course my powder never lasts too long around here. Pyrodex is a good consistant powder. I know a friend of mine found a can he had squirreled away for a rainy day that had to be over seven years old, and we shot that off like it was brand new. It will be interesting to learn if the powder is good or not. I will guess it is good... If not, the local wal mart was selling it cheap.

Powder never lasted me too long either, until my guns got stolen. I got into archery big time after that and never replaced them. Thought about it and was starting to get set up when I bought this can of powder I asked about, but never followed through and actually got the rifle. But I've got a deal worked out with Santa this year and the smokepole is on it's way.

I asked this same question a while back and during my research I ran across a guy who talked with Hogdon and they say as long as its not open it will last indefinately....After open it should last a few years but judge by odor and appearance
