Default I know the type of ML I want next

after 2 monthes of thinking about it, I desided I am going to get a sidelock for my next ML. it is going to be more for fun then hunting. I figure a 1 in 48. but I gotta work it in to my budget for next year. I have to get atleast 2 new scopes (nikons).

you think with all the troubles I am having I would not won't another gun (oh hell, was that out loud.)

I guess I am hooked.

I need some ideas I guess about the $300 maybe more, has to depend if I have to get a scope for all my guns.

Look around for a Lyman Trade Rifle. In some places they are under $300.00, they are excellent quality, 1-48 twist and well worth the money..

I just want to back up my thinking. a 1 - 48 twist should give me a full range of projectiles. Am I wrong or wright?

Yes, a 1-48 twist will shoot roundball and in MOST cases sabots and conicals. Although I have some 1-48 rifles that shoot roundball excellent but the rest.. not so well.

It will cost about $550, unless you get the kit, but I'd get the Lyman Great Plains in .54 caliber, twist is 1-60 which is proper for round balls...With a .54 a ball is all you need for deer...

Sometimes you can find a good clean New Englander for $150 or less. That's what I'd be looking for.

I really love my deer creek northwest rifle. Thats my new long range baby.
You can call deer creek and see what they have. Mine is the Northwest rifle. They come in .45-.50 and .54cal. Percussion or flintlock.

$550 for the great plains is way to much. You could get the GPR for around $430-450. Cabelas likes to jack their prices up.

Ask around, check fleamarkets etc.

I love sidelock muzzleloaders. I am picking up a TC renegade from a coworker for 100 bucks after the holidays...My CVA Hawken cost 135 bucks at a fleamarket...
