Default Partner fills his Doe Tag...

First Harvest with the new 54 Cal 420 grain Bull Shop Conical. Dan started working on these 54 cal conicals awhile back and we ordered .541's for the Hawken barrel and .542's for my Renegade, both of these slip fit very well in both barrels. Got a chance to use one of them today.

Larry took this nice little doe @ 75 yards.... the Bull Shop did everything it was suppose to do. Pass through with a great blod trail for the 20 yard the doe went... course with all the snow even the blind could follow the trail - well anyway Larry did... I was unable to shoot thedeer I saw this trip because I was using my Remington 700ML (loaded for elk - we are in our late season rifle controlled elk hunt) and yall already know Idaho swiched to pivoting hammers so that put a damper on my fun today... but, I did get to drive the Kawasaki on a retreival mission.

Excellent!! Great wisdom in finding that load and combo to shoot in those guns and get them ready, including putting them together from parts. Chap

Way to go.. I shot some of BullShops bullets but the accuracy for me was not that great.. But I was not pushing them very hard. Perhaps I need to order some new and push them a lot harder. I shoot the Renegades so I need the .542 your saying.

Congratulations to Larry on his doe. That looks like a good eating deer there.

Do not know why, but the bore diameter of the 54 Hawken Barrel and the 54 Renegades are different. The Hawhen is much tighter, the .542 slip fit both Renegade barrels, and the Trade Rifle barrel just right for me. You can get a .542 to go down the Hawken fairly easy once it is started on a CLEAN barrel but on a fowled bore it really get tight. Dan has a 54 Hawken up ther and the .541 is what he had to use also, both his Hawken and Larry's have the QLA.

I really do not, or have not yet, get the the best groups with these 420/54 cal conicals that I really would like to see - way acceptable but nothing like what I can do with the 460's... I really wish they were a little heavier and a little longer... think that would make a big difference...

When Dan first made some up, I shot some of them in my different Renegades, Trade Rifle, CVA Stalker, and Hawkins and the best of all the rifles for the conicals was my $39.95 CVA Mountain Stalker. Now my Trade Rifle will shoot a 405 grain Powerbelt really well for some reason. It really does a good job with them.
