My hunting partener got a 123 # doe this morning using 45cal. 240 gr XTP and a black knight sabot. He shot her right through the shoulder breaking it through both lungs and out the front of the oppsite shoulder the exit hole was about twice the size of the bullet, she went about 35 yds at a stumble. He was using 90 gr of 777-FF.Lee
Well that sounds like the bullet did real well.. congratulations to your friend on making venison.

Very nice, that is great XTP performance. Was it a XTP Mag or regular XTP? Chap Gleason

gleason.chapman, it was a regular XTP, some people push them to hard, but they will do an excellant job with 90 gr of 777-FF.
It was actually one of a batch I gave him to try I just got him started in muzzleloading a month a go.
He bought a used Knight Big Horn I found for him got it to shoot 1.5 inch group the first time out with that load now he dont want to shoot anything else. Lee
Have only shot one deer with XTPs, but it did what you described. Nice wound channel and a short recovery.
I switched to Barnes MZs the next year and have stuck with them since, but it looks like I may go back to XTPs this year. They shoot best from my new inline.
Not really so much the bullet as where you put it - as long as it's a quality bullet designed for the job you're giving it.

He has the bug then--1.5" is excellent. That is great Lee that you introduced another person to this sport. It takes quite a bit to get "into it" and learn all the ropes of stand placement, hunting rilfe, bullet, gutting, etc. Chap Gleason
