Be patient with her, show her the health benefits of venison:
Also buy her a good Venison cook book and of course learn to cook yourself, she will then want a freezer full of venison of which you can gladly supply here with since you live in Va. I use 6 per year and it took about 5 years for my wife to "learn the health benefits of venison", now she loves it and has learned how to prepare it.

Well sometimes what we feel important on our wish list they do not. For instance, I never could understand how someone with well over 50 pairs of shoes could get excited over another pair of shoes that I would bet two years later, would still be in the same box.
Relationships can be demanding sometimes. All you can do for the peace and sanctity of the home is keep quiet, and try to get along. Just reduce your list and keep hinting. She will get the idea. They always do. Also make sure you ask her what she might like....
Perhaps invite her for a day on the range, shooting muzzleloader. I did that with my wife a couple times and she really enjoyed it. And that evening we would go out to some special restaurant for dinner, etc. It did not make her into a hunter, but I did get a great Ruger T-22 semi auto pistol with the bull target barreland a Ruger 10-22 semi automatic rifle for Christmas that year.
I now have a my own system for Christmas. I buy my own presents. That way when I open them ... they are just what I wanted. Perfect color, fit, everything. Everything I hoped for I get and nothing I did not want. Now that is Christmas....

Venison substituted in beef dishes, especially stews, and sauce type things like chili or spaghetti is really flavorful. I personally prefer it to beef. Also a well made venison roast with onions and carrots will equal the best beef in the store. I personally like the venison butterfly chops from the back straps. I do them on the grill. No one turns them down..
I am sure your wife will come around and later encourage you to deer hunt.

I'll never understand that "getting into trouble for buying something for myself" mess. Man, pull your pants up and go get that gun that you want. If she asks where your paycheck went, tell her the truth. " I wanted a new gun, I bought it, now get over it! Shoot, if my wife even tried that jun...... OOPS, gotta go, she's in the driveway and I ain't got the dishwasher loaded.
Seriously, It's give and take man. If she's got her eye on something, find a way to get it. Makes it much easier when your buttering her up for a new toy. I've always wanted a Ruger Red Label but she had a purchase on her mind. I got the Ruger and she got an Envoy![:@] ( that left a mark )

You & I have the same feelings on this subject.
I for one have never been able to understand why some one needs a closet just for their shoes especially when they only wear maybe 3-5 pair out of all of em.
As far as the Birthday & Christmas gifts, my wife tried to get what I wanted in the Archery & Muzzleloader department only to not find the item that either I needed or wanted.
One year for Christmas after she opened all of her gifts she got a pen & wrote a note & put it in the earring box that I had given her "the not said go ahead & get the Bow Press that you want" now I just place a note with pictures of the items I want/need & she picks which one I should have the kids name & her name as the giver on it....
