Default surface rust

Ihunted with my ss Pro-Hunter for a couple of days without wiping it down... it wasn't raining but it was foggy one morning. Anyway, much to my horror I looked at my gun and it had little rust spots on the receiver,,, I never thought this would happen to a ss gun so soon. It's only cosmetic, but darn, it sure does hurt my feelings... is there any thing I can do to remove it?

A light surface rust is not a big deal. A good quality solvent on a patch will "normally" take it right back off. If not a stronger metal cleaner like Brasso might be in order. Once you get the rust off, wipe real hard on that area with a oiled patch. You want to work oil back into that area as solid as you can.

Next time you come in, take apatch or in my case, acotton glove and I spray that cotton glove with gun oil. Then I put them on and wipe all the metal parts free of any finger prints, condensation, etc. Then set the rifle up somewhere. After you take the gloves off, put them in a zip lock baggie for the next time. Also you are postive that the rifle is wiped down, and no finger prints are on it, so it should be safe from surface rust. Cotton gloves are cheap. If they get too stinky throw them away and get another pair.

cayugad, as soonas I saw it I wiped it with Break-Free CLP but it is like the rust spots kind of "colored" the ss were they were at. I'll give the Brasso a try. Thanks!

It sounds like the stainless steel is stained now. That can be hard to clean off. Brasso might get it off. As we all know stainless steel will rust it just, stain's less is all. Good luck.

Well I am glad that worked.. it is what I use on all my rifles to make them shine when they get dull...
