Default Traditions Deerhunter .50 cal

Does anyone own one of these? What are your thoughts? I realize its not the most refined make and model but will it get the job done. Can you shoot modern BP out of them? Thanks all. Now I've potentially got two guns for which to save. Will the madness ever end?[:@]

I have a Traditions Deerhunter .50 Flinter and it is a fine shooter. They aren't the most expensive guns but I've won two woodswalks with our club shooting it. The flinter frizzens are fine spark throwers and in the two years I've had it there has never been a problem. I shoot 60 GR 3F and a .495 ball with a .010 patch. This is agood load for deer.

I've had one for over 20 years. I couldn't count how many deer I've harvested with it. I cast my own mini balls from a Lee mold for it. Use 85 grains of pyrodex. Great load. (mini's are 300 gr.)

80 gr. 777 with either 295 gr. copper Powerbelt is a nice load out to 125 yards.

I have the nickel electro plated .50 percussion modelwhichis avery durable finish inside the barreland out. Itreally helps toclean up very easily. My son hunts with itusinga TC Break-O-Way sabot with a 240 grain lead hollowpoint over 90 grains of Pyrodex P, and it shoots to the same point of impact as patched round balls very, very accurately.
