Default .458/ 300 gr rem hp results 1st shot on deer

i got to try out my new bullet / load combo yesterday .

i know one shot / one kill is not a true test of a bullet by any means , but first impressions are very good

I took the longest shot i ' ve ever taken with a muzzle loader , on a grown doe ( 121 lbs on my scale ). she was at a measured 131 yds , at the shot she dropped .

the load was 2 50gr pyrodex pellets , mmp 50/458 sabot , and a remington 300gr hp (458)

the shot angle was quartering to , shot placement was the forward center of the shoulder the bullet expanded , and exited the off side at the last rib area ,

were the bullet exited the shoulder , and entered the chest cavity , the bullet was already expanding well , the wound was about twice the diameter of the bullet

the performance was what i would expect from this bullet in my 45/70

so far i'm happy with this ..good accuracy.....and so far good performance ..mike

Way to go lee! I use that bullet in my 45-70 which will consistently shoot one-holers at 100 yards, but can't get it under about 4" at 100 yards in my Mustang. It's a great deer bullet if you don't push it too fast.
