Default 250 & 300 grain XTP results

With all the recent talk about pass throughs I thought I would post some results from deer camp.

I shot a 150 lb buck from 50 yards with a 300 grain XTP (short black MMP sabot, 95 grains of 777). The shot was broadside and entered just behind the front shoulder, above the heart. The bullet broke a piece of rib off that I found lodged in the backbone. The bullet exited on the far side, the deer dropped immediately after being hit and rolled down a hill. I didn't see the deer move a muscle after the shot. Both lungs were destroyed.

My father shot a 150 lb doe from about 10 yards - same bullet and charge. She didn't give a great angle. The shot went in at the front shoulder, passed through the heart, and exited the far ribcage. The deer ran a few steps and fell dead. Nothing left of the heart, lots of blood.

I saw 3 other deer shot with the 250 grain XTP with 100 grains of 777. These were smaller deer but all shots were pass-throughs, and none of the deer went anywhere.

Tenderloin for dinner tonight.

Tom -

That is good information. I know that is a concern to XTP shooters, including myself. If the deer ever let me test one on them. Good luck ...

First of congrats on the loins!!!

Secondly, it isinteresting to note that the loads used were not of magnum perportions but rather moderate. Powerbelt users take heed.

Thanks for the info.. I'm going to the range today or tomarrow depending on the weather.. 'spose to rain sometime. Would rather go when it is dry. Even though there are covered tables. I am going to try out some of the 300gr XTPs.

chris

Alsotaking 250gr shockwaves, 280 gr powerbelts , and some shockwaves that came with the Omega. I'm hoping the XTP's group well for me with 2 - 50gr T7 pellets. I like the price and reviews onthose bullets / sabots. Should be okay as I'm sighting for 100yrds. 95 % of my shots will probably be under that. Due to how and where I will be hunting this year. Hopefully be able to get one down the pipe @ 150 if I need to.

My son shot his first bigame animal last year with his muzzleloader , a spike elk and i shot my first animal with a muzzleloader ,a small mule deer . Both animals were shot in theneck and dropped . I hope to shoot a Elk this november with my new Emcore using the .45 300 grain XTP . I hope i get a shoulder shot to see what the bulletwill do .
