Default Got This Little Guy

Got this guy last evening when he came to water. My stand is on the pond dam and is ten feet tall. Hehad his head down when i shot him. The bullet entered above the shoulders, justmissed thespine and hit two ribs: It shredded the lungs and heart, made a mess of the rear intestines and did not exit.

Gun: CVA Stag Horn
Powder: Two 50 grain Pyrodex pellets
Primer: Winchester shotgun
Bullet: 240 grain XTP in a short black sabot

BTW: The gun had been loaded since 26 September.

congratulations... that is some excellent eating I see there. I like them little deer. Nothing better on the table.

Since the bullet did not exit.. how close was the deer to the stand? Nice shooting there. And the rifle was loaded that long.. WOW!!!

Congratulations on the harvest. I agree with cayugad, there's no better eating than a tender young deer.

Now on the other hand if you had loaded the way those Powerbelt folks like to load, 150 2f t7, 245 gr PB............ I do believe the performance would have been far different.

Proper bullet, proper load, proper results!

Good Job! Also thanks for the info! I haven't sighted my new Omega yet, but there's a good chance I'll be using those same XTP's if my gun likes them.
I agree, some good eating in those smaller ones.My deer before last was a big 'ol buck and aside from the backstraps the meat was pretty tough. I got an older doe a week or so ago but she turned out to be pretty tender for an old one.
