remove the barrel from the stock, if you have a vise, wrap a towel around the barrel and snug it into the vise and then use a propane torch and heat the breech plug area "outside" For about 20 seconds and slowly go all around the breech area. Keep your breech plug tool on it while you do this and keep pressure on it. It will free up the gunk and come right out.

Once the barrel is out, Remove your trigger mech. Get a bucket of hot soapy water, set the breech end of the barrel into the hot soapy water and let it soak in there for about 10 minutes. Make sure you have a breech plug thread cleaner. You can use a .54 cal bore brush and clean the Breech plug barrel threads and then use a cotton mop to dry it out and get any other crud out.

Dry everything and then Lube your breech plug and nipple with breech plug grease. I use CVA breech plug and nipple grease.

Some ways to get it out is, submerge that breech end in ice cold water. Then have a small propane torch. After your sure that breech is ice cold, then hit the plug with the torch while it is in a vice. As the plug heats up and the colder steel around the plug does not, the plug should turn out.

Another way is to soak the plug in a soup can of strong soap and water over night. Sometimes that will break them loose. Or Kroll Oil will often times penetrate the fowling and that will help you get the plug out. Put that barrel in a vice. Put your wrench on that plug and tap it with a hammer lightly. That will some times break them free also.
