Default Premeasured Goex Pinnacle

I got a great deal on premeasured goex and have a question, When it says to pulverize, are they seimply wanting you to jam the ram rod down the barrel to break it up??? I got this for 9.97 / bottle and wanted to compare this to 777. Thanks for your suggestions.

With black powder I would STRONGLY caution you not to "jam the ram rod down the barrel to break it up..."!!!

Black powder is very impact sensitive, and sudden physical shock or impact, as when you pound the ramrod down on the charge, can cause black powder to spontaniously ignite, with a less than positive outcome.

I'm guessing that they mean that you should seat the bullet with a firm but steady pressure, which will break up the powder.

As for a comparison to T7, Goex is REAL black powder, made with a mixture of potassium nitrate (saltpeter), sulfur and charcoal. It is not as powerful as T7 (which is made from sugar-like compounds), but is a perfectly acceptable powder. Just make sure you thouroughly clean the rifle when done for the day, preferably using hot soapy water, because black powder residue is very hygroscopic (attracts and pulls moisture out of the air) and once dampened even slightly it becomes highly corrosive and will severely rust and pit a barrel in less than 24 hours.

I believe Pinnacle is a substitute powder with no sulfur. I don't believe there is any danger of igniting it with impact, but I'd find out from the company before I tried beating on it with a ramrod. The firm steady pressure would be preferably anyway, for load consistancy.

Their instructions say to do exactly that - "Just drop the pre-measured charge down the barrel of your gun and use the ramrod to pulverize it." The idea of doing that sorta gives me peenycitis.

Well, I'd still be VERY careful. I'd use just a firm pressure. Better that than to find out the hard way that that powder is shock sensitive.

Pinnacle is a sugar based powder made by American Pioneer Ppwder Companythrough cooperation with Goex. It is actually a good powder. Very clean burning and very easy to clean up after. If you're shooting the sticks, a way to break at powder up is push the projectile down fast and hard and you will feel the pellet crush down under it. The trouble is they are sqare in shape if I remember. And the barrel being round of course, their fear is air space. They want the pellets to crush so that they fill up the air space in the breech of the rifle.

When I shot the sticks my friend had, I dropped one, took the ramrod with the loading jag on it, reached down and pushed the pellet, crushing it. Then dropped a second one and did the same thing. They crush very easy. And then seated the projectile. When I wanted to speed load, I dropped the two sticks, and then the projectile on top. I then pushed the projectile down with force and could feel the pellets crush under it. I had much better accuracy with the Pinnacle 3f loose powder then they did with the pellets.

I had bought loose, and they bought pellets. We wanted to see what was best. We all agreed that the loose powder was the better deal, but then we did not get it for the price you did.
