Default CVA Optima

Hey Everyone;

Got a question about this gun. I would like to know if you can put the shotgun barrel on it or is it on the optima pro only. The reason I ask is that after reading an email I got from them it appears so. Here is what it said:The optima and the optima pro are muzzle loading rifles they are able to interchange .50 , .45 or 12ga muzzle loading barrels only. All barrels are available . Am I smoking something or it that the way you read it.

Nolan

A simple answer would be to call BPI/CVA Monday and ask. If your interested, you could even order one at that time, if they worked.

No you can not. Only the Optima Pro or Optima Elite come with shotgun barrel option.

I'd opt for the Elite! Its not much more than the Pro and the elite allows you to use a centerfire/shotgun/blackpowder barrel"s".

My understanding of the older Optima line is that the major difference between the Optima and Optima Pro is the barrel length. Any optima barrel can be used on the Optima reciever 26" or 29". The Optima Elite is a new configuration in both barrel and reciever and is designed to handle the capabilities of CF rounds in addition to ML and shotgun. As Dave said, call BPI and confirm in person just to be sure.

If the old Optima would accept regular shell-type shotgun barrels, it would be a 4473 firearm and not available for online/mail order sales. There has to be a difference in the way the barrel is affixed to the frame such thatElite barrels will not fit on the standard Optima/Pro.

It's a ML shotgun barrel, not the standard shell type.

UC,
The original post did specify ML shotgun barrel not a modern shotshell shotgun barrel. That is what I ment to say, sorry if I was unclear on that point.

Here is a link to the non-elite Optima shotgun. http://www.cva.com/products/rifle_optshot.htm

Note it says using the same reciever as the optima rifle, not pro. It also lists barrels that can be bought seperately. This could have been a typo but I have also asked the question of BPIbefore and was told the PRO barrels will fit the standard Optima reciever. Check with them directly and verify for yourself.
