Default Winchester X-150 Pawn shop price

Found a used Winchester X-150 at a local pawn shop, in okay condition what would be a reasonable price for it...and how old of a gun would/could this be??? No book or accessories come with it...what would be a must have accessory for this gun...what powder and bullet weight would effectively kill a 100 pound whitetail and be accurate..

thanks,
texas hunter

First off welcome to the forum.

Winchester is a subsidiary of BPI. It has nothing to do with Winchester other then they bought thename. Just so we have that up front. It is a spanish made barrel. The model X-150 is not that old of a rifle. Maybe a year or two. There are still some floating around on shelves.

As for the value of the rifle, they were showing up on sale NEW for around $150.00 so this thing better be in good shape. Being a pawn shop has it, you can bet they paid next to nothing for it. If the rifle was in real good condition, and I mean check that thing over... Take the breech plug out and look down the barrel. It would be nice to remove the barrel and check the stock for hair line cracks also. But I personally would not buy it. There are too many good sales out there right now. But if you want it, no more then $100.00 IMO.

As for what it will shoot, they are a magnum rifle and shoot a lot of things very well. Powerbelts, sabots, etc... There are others on the board that can give you better information on this.

Not 100% sure about the X-150 but most BPI guns can be dated by the last 2 digits of the serial number, it represents the year of manufacture. The X-150's are good shooters from what I hear. I too wouldn't pay over $100 unless it was in new condition so check it over and verify it's condition before making an offer. Does it come with a scope?

thanks for the reply,
the gun has a nice Simmons 3x9 scope large octical mounted on it too, not a cheap 22 cal scope.....they were asking 249.00 for it, wow I had no idea what it sold for for new...the guy quickly came down to 160 as I began to walk out......told him I would think about it..I am located in a large college town and am assuming a college kid hocked it for beer money...even if the scope is worth 60.00 I think I still have some haggle room...was reading a post below about the hassle of loading the 209 primers into this gun, stated you needed a capper is there truth to that?? the less gadgets for me the better..
thanks again,

Being a bolt gun I would suggest you use a capper. For the most part a capper isn't that big a deal, they've been used by sidelock shooters for a very long time and can be hung around you neck or from your fanny pack or kept in a shirt pocket or whereever you want. I carry the single primer one that came with the rifle as a backup in my pack just in case but have only needed it once when I forgot to put the multi capper in my pocket before leaving the truck. Also some speed loaders have a place to store a primer and can be used as a capper for some rifles. Good luck in your negotiations and keep us informed.

Is this a stainless steel model? Or were they just nickel finish? Accessories means no breech plug wrench. Is the breech plug frozen in the rifle? Is the barrel pitted? The scope I would not get all that excited about. Sportsman's Guide sells them for about $30.00 - $50.00 depending on model, for a Simmons. Standard stock bases and rings are only $30.00. So at used price even less then their $60.00 retail. Just the fact he was willing to drop that much in price when I went to leave would set the bells off in my head.

Good luck on your choice.

x-150s were blue or stainless steel only. X-150 started production in '02 and is still being made but only dealed through winchster. $160 is a killer deal. I'd buy it asap. I wont ever give up my x150.

I'll even give you a few pointers on how to shoot under 1" groups with it. That always pisses off the guys shootin the scoped muzzys

Does the bolt come out easily, I looked for a button by the trigger guard to push like in a rifle, thought I read somewhere that the bolt is easily taken out...would like to take it out when I go back to the pawn shop to look down the barrel, guess I will need an breech plug remover wrench too, told the pawn shop guy I wanted to bring my muzzleloader stuff up there to check the barrel he said no problem, run a patch down the barrel etc...I have an older CVA #11 primer muzzleloader that is getting no fire to the hole, have cleaned and cleaned and cleaned, the primer holder is seized onto the barrel, am trying to get a gunsmith to unseize it....I just wasn't too familar with the newer inlines am also told the #11 primers are almost obselete, been out of the muzzleloader loop for a couple of years since Texas dropped the season....can a person still get #11 primers??
thanks you guys ya'll "ROCK"..

the bolt is super easy to pull lol. Open bolt, pull straight back, push down, pull back and it slides out.
Breech pkug remover = Long screw driver.

X-150 should have a 209 primer ignition.

Can you still get #11 caps? Sure. Many stores still sell them, and they are on line but you have to pay a hazmat fee. I just bought 2000 of them and had no problem finding the brands I wanted.
