My 10 year old son Tyler and I are best friends and hunting partners. I Bought Tyler a CVA wolf for Christmas last year from Wal-Mart on clearance for $80.00. He was out of school yesterday so we were able to hunt all day. I'm happy to say that Tyler was successful but it came at a price. I'm very proud of Tyler, however I am very dissapointed in myself. I spent so much on Noslers and sabots and so on and so forth, instead of sharing all of that with Tyler and helping him find the optimum load for his gun, I gave him my " hand me down " bullets and pellets and zeroed his gun in at 50 yards. Tyler and I were sitting in our box stand Saturday morning when a nice little six pointer steps out at 80 yards. Tyler took his time and held it right on the buck's shoulder and squeezed the trigger. I was watching with my rifle scope and saw the bullet hit just under the deer. When I told him that he had missed, he was devistated. A little later, we went to the club house and shot his rifle to find it was shooting very low. Upon further inspection, I found that the scope mounts were loose, in fact, one was missing a screw in a ring. After tightening everything up. I set him up with some Noslers and some MMP 24 sabots. Here's what we wound up with:
I'm ashamed of myself for not making sure that he was just as prepared as I was and that cost him a decent buck. He seems pretty happy with his 110lb Doe.

We hunted another stand in the afternoon and the results were very much different. Check it out:

One thing about missing a buck - you'll never forget that day and, believe me, it will make you smile one day. I've forgotten some of the deer I killed - but remember every miss vividly.
You anddadwillhave lots of fun telling the story.

(3) There's no need to act stupid, even if you're very good at it. (4) If you eat right and exercise, don't smoke or drink, you're going to die anyway.
Good job Tyler - And by the way, it was your dad's fault you missed that buk and not yours. Get a knife and cut off his shirt tail.

Congratulations on a fine freezer filler. That makes for some great eating and even better memories, not to mention a good leason or two. Good luck on the rest of the season.

Hi, my name is Tyler and my dad wanted me to tell you about our hunt. Me and dad got in our stand way before daylight and waited for the sun to come up. We saw a button buck real early but we don't shoot them. A nice buck came into the path and dad told me to hold it right on him and squeeze the trigger. I did but when the smoke went away, dad said that I missed but I knew I had it on him. My was so upset, I felt like crying. We went to the club house and dad and uncle Ellis shot my gun. It was way off and the scope was loose. Dad took everything apart and put the scope back on but this time, he put that stuff on the screws so that they would not come back out. Dad went in his box and got me some of his nosler bullets and sabots that he ordered. They got it shooting real good and dad gave me a box of bullets and a bag of sabots to keep in my box. Dad was really upset for not making sure that my gun was shooting as good as his but that's okay. I didn't get that buck because it wasn't God's will. Maybe I'll get him when he's even bigger. We went to a different place that afternoon. We climbed up a 2 man ladder stand and hooked our safety harnesses to the tree. Then we always pray for a safe and sucessful hunt. About an hour later a huge doe came into the path and dad hit her with the range finder and told me that she was about 90 yards and to hold it right on her shoulder. I shot and when the smoke cleared, she was gone. I asked dad what happened because I didn't see her run. Dad told me to look back down there with the scope and I did. She was laying right beside the path. I was so happy! I had to calm down before dad would let me climb down. When we got to her, she was huge. I was so happy. I hit her right in the shoulder. We gave thanks to God and went to get help getting her to the truck. My dad killed one saturday morning at 180 yards and she just dropped right there. I watched the whole thing through my binoculars and it was so cool. I love my dad. He is a good man and I'm very blessed to have a father like him. I'm shooting a CVA Wolf that I got for Christmas last year. I'm now shooting the same load as dads but less powder. I'm shooting Nosler 260 grain HPs, MMP 24 sabots, winchester primers and 80 grain of T-7 pellets, one 50 grain and one 30 grain. I want a bushnell firefly scope for Christmas and a range finder. I'm 10 years old and this is the 8th deer I've killed but my first with my muzzle loader. Thanks for listening to the long story. Dads going to fix some mistakes and sent this to you.
Great story there Tyler, thanks for sharing. Don't forget to thank your dad for taking you out and teaching you about hunting and the outdoors. God bless you and your dad.
