Default 200 yards with the .45

Getting ready to take the Deer Creek .45 out and try a few shots at 200 yards with it! I know, im crazy but hey, We all have a little of that in us
Im going to be using my hunting load of 80 grains triple 7 and a 225 grain aerotip powerbelt.

If i am correct, it should be about 8 to 8 1/2" low @ 200 yards.

I wont be using a rest either, My shooting table fell down a couple weeks ago . I'll have to make do with part of the table leg that fell into over and left me with a thick shooting stick type of setup, I'll have to take a pic of what im shooting off of, its pretty darn funny.
I'll hopefully hit the target and have some pics soon.

that was interesting. First shot @ 200 yards was 9" to the right and 3" low of the bulls eye. Next shot, 9" low, center with my first shot, 3ed shot was a hangfire and hit the top of my target, 4th shot, 8" low and 9" to the left.

Triple 7 was acting crazy the other day so im going to clean the rifle and use 100 grains of goex fffg and go back out to 200 yards.

Didnt group worth a crap, but atleast it hit the target!lol.

Should do a lot better on my next outing.

FG,
If I remember right that Deer Creek has open sights on it. 200 yards is a long way with regular sights, at least for me and my eyes. Your powder may be fine but the amount of sighting error could account for a large portion of your group size. I prefer a peep sight for those types of shots using my Lyman GPH. I've tried some 200 yard shots with open sights on one of my other sidelocks and was getting groups (lol) of around 15". Bear in mind that was with round ball so It loses quite a bit and it was windy. With the GPH and a 460 conical it will keep them in a 6" circle or better if I do my part. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I was going to say.. with standard open sights.. just hitting the paper is an accomplishment at 200 yards. I would not be all that upset. I do not know if I could even see a fair sized target with the naked eye enough to focus, adjust and hold a gun sight on.

Good shooting there.

I used the top of my shooting table, slapped an orange 3" circle on it and it stands out really well. At 200 yards for me, it looks like a 1" orange dot @ 50 yards.

Im heading out now and i'll hold my sight on the left edge of the circle this time.

100 grains fffg goex this time.

well, #1 shot i was shaking badly on and it hit 11" low and a few to the left, Next shot was perfect! 9" low, dead center, 3ed shot was 8" below the bulls eye and 3-4" to the right. If i measured from #2-3 shot, it measured 5" center/center. Going out again with camera and i'll show you my shooting rest "lol!"
Also recovered a powerbelt! I got more info on these babies!

I forgot my marker and i wasnt going back for it so i used pine needles to mark the holes.
The rest is crude, but it works for now.
Weighted the bullet and its 0.4oz. The exact weight a new bullet weighs up at on my scale. This bullet was driven by 100 grains fffg goex and shot at 200 yards! I think the 225 grain powerbelt is a winner for deer sized game.

no thanks, i have about 50-60 2x4's left over. I have to build a new target frame because my first shot took out one corner.

Going back out in a few minutes to shoot 3 more 200 yard shots and then call it a day. I was having a blond moment today while cleaning and the thought hit me, Why didnt i use the 4 wheeler seat like i used to do? DOH! Now i will give that a try.

On the way out to the 4 wheeler i got side tracked by a noise in some brush and ended up putting my small game tag to use Although i must admit i am not to fond of eating rabbit head and front paw. Im not sure where the rest went

Took the rifle back to the house so i could swab and start on a fresh barrel, loaded it and then i noticed the .45 felt wads i had out. Loaded them up in my rifle and speedloaders.
BIG MISTAKE! The shots dropped badly! 2 shots barely skimmed the bottom of a board " measured 4" center center!" The 3ed shot dropped a little lower and hit the cardboard i had set up.
I recovered 2 powerbelts and burned my finger on one due to it being so hot.

Not a bad day but theres room for improvement and i plan on more shooting tomorrow evening.

Now i'll clean the rifle for the 4th time today and hit the sack early. Rifle deff. has 200 yard potential.
