Default Got a Pig This Evening.

Was sitting in a stand overlooking a pond when i heard a hog very close
to the tree i was in. Aftera couple of minutes he came out. For some reason i thought he looked about like an 80 pounder. Wrong!!! Had to draga 300 pound+ hog about 75 yards where i could hook him up to the truck winch.

Distance: < 12 yards.
Gun: .50 cal. CVA Stag Horn
Powder: Pyrodex RS, 100 grains
Bullet: 240grain Hornady XTP
Primer: 209 Winchestershotgun

Photo will follow in the morning.

Congratulations on the pig.How far did the hog run? That sounds like a nice powerful load. Did you get pass through with that? What kind of internal damage did that XTP do? Where did you hit the hog? When is dinner?

Again congratulations on the hog.. the pics will be exciting.

"Congratulations on the pig.How far did the hog run?"
A. Nowhere. He did not even kick.

Thanks. "That sounds like a nice powerful load."
A. It is a very good load for most hogs.Maybe marginal for a longer range shoulder shot on a hog this big.Probably should go to using the XTP/Mag bullets in this gun.

"Did you get pass through with that?"
A. No.

"What kind of internal damage did that XTP do? Where did you hit the hog? When is dinner?"
A. Not known. In the neck ranging forward. Come on down.

Will take photos and post when my friend comes to get him this morning.

That should make some breakfast sausage for a while. I do pity you having to drag that hog even the short distance you had to. Moving something large like that in dead weight is never an easy task.

"I do pity you having to drag that hog even the short distance you had to." Thanks,my 68 year old body hurts all over this morning. These are the photos. To give you some idea how wide the shoulders ofboars can be: This guy is 16 inches through the shoulders. A really big one could go over 20 inches through the shoulders.

This is a very old hog. He is also very fat. His bottom dog cutters are broken.
