Default NEF Muzzleloader

I am looking for an inexpensive muzzleloader. I am thinking of the NEF muzzleloader. Does anyone shoot one? How do you like it? Would you buy one again?

Anyone have a muzzleloader for under $200 that they recommend?

Cheers,
CB

Everything I have read about them ... other then you need to replace the ramrod in them... they are a good quality, good shooting rifle out of the box. I am sure there are some NEF Sidekick owners that can help you out here.

Buy a used rifle here you will get a better rifle for the $200.

I love my sidekick. It shoots great and isn't at all picky about bullet/powder combinations. Any bullet I have tried in the 225-300 grain range with 80-110 grains of powder shoots accurately enough for my purposes.

If you are going to add a scope buy the NEF bases.

I have the Huntsman and for an inexpensive muzzleloader this a great gun. Before you shoot one make sure you have a good amount of breach plug grease on the breach plug they are very hard to get out after you have shot them a few rounds (my only complaint of the gun). They are very accurate and I have my gun sighted in at 2" high at a 100 yards and know where to aim at 200. With a mil-dot scope I can hit a softball every time at 200. The sidekick is a little longer then the Huntsman and has a little different breach plug yet still want to make sure it has a good amount of grease on it. In my opinion I would get the Stainless one before the Blued. Great gun and well worth the money. Good Luck.

Everyone,

Thanks for your opinoins on the NEF.

RiverRat, I agree on the stainless considering how corrosive I hear blackpowder is.

Tom L, I plan to just use the sights on the gun this year, but will eventually get a scope for it and will plan to get the NEF bases.

Cheers,
Chris
