Default scope for a muzzleloader

I am buying a new scope for my 30-06 (tasco 3-9X50) and taking the old scope off it and mounting it on my usak (tasco 3-9X40? came with the 30-06). Is that a good idea?

I am having major scope desiding problems this year. lol

Rifle scopes work just fine on muzzleloaders. Just be aware of the eye relief. Muzzleloaders tend to like to cut eye brows and the bridge of the nose.

About any good riflescope will hold up fine, but cayugad's right about recoil. One of my hunting buddy's Knights with a Leupold left me bleeding last time I shot it. Nasty cut on the bridge of the nose. [:-]

Shucks, anybody who hasn't hada half-moon scar on the bridge of their nose or above the eyebrow just hasn't shot enough.

Didn't tell about the eyebrow cut, that was with a scoped shotgun.

Corey-

I think this time of year all of usthat love and hunt the outdoors get that urge to beout sneaking around out there whether its woods, marshes, open plains, mountains or just in your own back yard. As for the shooting of something, to me that is a bonus anymore. Although when I was a young fellow there were nights before opening season I could not even sleep I was so pumped and ready to go. Just being out in the woods is the real joy now. Filling the freezer is a blessing.

I am fortunate to live in the woods. The dog and I just wander around out there looking at what ever we can see. Saw some grouse yesterday but had no gun, a hen pheasant (which is really strange for where I live), one fawn that was looking for mom, and when out doing errands, a black bear crossed the road in front of the truck. Eagles are getting to be a more common sight now over head as are some of the great raptors like the redtail hawk, and an ocassional owl. We have a pair of loons on the lake next to me. Like I said, just being out in the woods it a real pleasure.

All of you about to, or who are hunting, be safe out there. No animal is worth risking life and limb of yourself or another. Know your physical limitations. If your in trees, use that safety harness. It might be a pain, but it might save your life. Let someoneknow where you will be hunting, and when you should be back. Carry a little something with you. In the event you get stranded or lost in the woods or where ever, over night, at least then you are not cold, wetor hungry too bad. Believe me, been there and have the memories.

The big thing is use your head out there and be safe. Also keep in mind that others out there might not be as safe and good a woodsman as yourself, so watch out for them. Accidents happen and that is what I want to stress and hope all of us can avoid this season. Good luck to all of you. Hunt safe and smart and shoot a big one.

Well, I was hoping to get out and shot this weekend, but my wife is having surgery next wed. and all my finishing and sighting are going to have to wait until everything (insurnice sucks (so does my spelling)) is ok. Looks like another shoot and go for me this year, thanks for all this help. And good luck on your hunts.

one thing my wife told me:
if you don't get a deer this year, your never going hunting again, [:'(]
