range time with the Knight

Took the Knight Disc to the range today to see if I could tell what bullet weight it likes. Pretty breezy conditions today with a 14 mph wind & gusts to 23 mph, so I shot at 50 yards.

Shot 2 groups with 110 grains ffg T-7.
First with 300 grain Hornady XTPs:


Next group with 240 grain Hornady XTPs:


Looks like it likes lighter bullets, so I decided to change powder. Used 110 grains Pyrodex R/S ffg for a group.


Looks like it doesn't really matter which powder I feed it, but it is going to be picky about bullet weight. Never shot a deer with a 240 grain XTP (I have killed one with a 300 grain XTP), but I may give it a try this year.

I expect it will kill them fine, I killed several with a .440 round ball (128grs) and 70 grains of powder....

That 240 is actually a classic deer killer, many used it back in the '80s and '90s...

The 240 is a pretty time proven deer bullet... do not think you will have a problem... I guess I am assuming youthe 240 you are shooting a 44cal?

Gotta ask have you tried either 250 Speers of 300's with the 110 T7 load?

For me and only me in my Remingtons, to get the 250XTP to group I do have to drop back to 100 grains T7 - which really is no big deal, but the Speers like to go quicker...

If you like the 44 cal, higher BC's then Speer makes both a 240 anda 270 grain Gold Dot.... That 270 could be really interesting, now that I mention it - think I will pick up a box and try them...

They were the 45 cal XTP mag bullets. Actually the 240 grain might be a better bullet for deer. The one I shot with a 300 gr XTP was a broadside shot at around 50 yards. The bullet whistled right on through him (6 point buck) and he went 30 or 35 yards before he dropped. The 240 on that same shot might expand more quickly and do more damage. Either way, a 35 yard recovery isn't really anything to complain about. It's just that the Barnes Expanders have spoiled me with 0 yard recoveries.

My Wolverine which has a 22" barrel for some reason likes Goex 3f and a 240 grain .45 caliber XTP. This was sighting in my Sightron S1 scope that the Wolverine wears. I knew the load was very accurate. The bottom hits were the first shots with the scope after I had tuned it at 50 yards, then I made an adjustment and started shooting for the bulls eye at 100 yards.

I do want to say that this is not my typical group. Normally there are fliers in there. I just do not shoot 1-1/2 inch groups like many of you shoot at 100 yards, even with a scope. But, for my little Wolverine LK-II that might be called on to shoot 50 yards out of my tree stands, I always figured that was good enough. Also with 90 grains of Goex 3f and that Thompson Center Mag Express.. a passing whitetail is in for a bad day.

Nice lookin rifles Rebel Hog.What is that camo one?? Hey Wabi I have the Knight Disk Extreme, I just bought a 100 pack of the Hornaby XTPs 250 grain for my rifle. I hope I get that good of group with mine.Did you use the MMP sabots??

I just bought the Hornady pre-packeged bullet & sabots. I believe they use MMP sabots in those packages.
