Default Range Report

Took the Triump out today, starting to think about deer hunting which is only a month and a week away here for the early muzzle loader season.
the first target [with marking pencil on it] was 50/40 blue sabot with 200gr SW and 110gr RS @ 100yds off bench at Cleborne count shooting range as was the other target. The second target was shot using SW 250 gr with the large group with the flyer being shot with 120 gr the smaller group was shot with 110 gr RS. Lee

cayugad, Iam struggling with this one a bit I have shot 6 targets with it now and it seems to shoot ok till you get to 110 gr+ at that point the groups open up;so far I have tried SW Gold dot and XTP in the 250 gr and the 50/40 200gr SW they shoot ok with 100 and 110 the just as I get to the edge of what I want for a hunting load they open up the groups. I will be hunting two places this year where I might get a 200yd shot, I may have to fall back on the Omega.
Do all the break actions lose it with heavy loads?
Any ideas on how to get it to shoot a good hunting load?

I really do not know what to tell you. I think what you're shooting now might work at 200 yards, but then I am only guessing as I have never had to shoot that far. Why the accuracy falls out like that is strange. Perhaps a different powder. Triple Se7en or American Pioneer. I really do not know what to tell you. Besides, you're more up on this long distance stuff then I ever dreamed to be with a muzzleloader.

I will try some other powders,I have some 777and some APP,I tried some 777 win primers and they shot exactally the same as the win 209 that I was using when I posted the first three targets. We have been traveling out west and helping out at the fair and working on some master gardener projects and I have only had time to shoot 6 targets so far. Maybe Sabotloarder or one of the other guys will have an idea. I hope its not typical of that break open action. Lee

Trying to stay positive on this subject... thoughts of changing powder, bullets, and etc. surely is an option and I really hope it would work for you, but I really believe there are some inheirent problemswith a break-open rifle.Shot guns OK, but rifles - I have a question and I know the Encore and clones have been very successful.

But, going back to the centerfire days I remember most the guys that were shooting a Ruger #1 (and I know it is not a break-open) complaining about the forearm costing them accuracy. It really was fine for hunting but you know us "it must be consistent" I use to follow along with the conversations these guys had about all the different things they did to screw their forearms on correctly and all the modifications they made to there forearms....

Then a couple of months back Cdad purchased a NEF .223 in a break open and started shooting it. (trying to be as good as my Sako bull barrel .222) - he is really competitive - I'm not. Well anyway.... he did a lot of research into trying to make it more accurate and again it came back to the forearm and how it was installed. He made a modification in his forearm using RVT blue silicone that made a ton of difference for him. I think the forearm now rides on the RVT - I am not sure but the information came from a NEF forum some place.

I have the TC open and I am looking at the Triumph closely for the first time. I have looked at it before and just assumed it was another Omega - untill you pointed it out it did not know it broke... so for me and my narrow mind I will stay with the Omega.

I still believe from what I am reading in your posts... it is tied to barrel vibrations-harmonics... How many screws hold the forearm to the barrel? - shoot I could ask a bunch of questions but with out seeing it wouldn't do me any good....

You might PM Cdad and ask him about what and why he did to his NEF forearm to straight out his accuracy problem...

Sorry I am not much help... I am one of the tactile learners - gotta feel it...

The forearm has two screws in it. I was hoping some othe Triumph shooters would come along and let us know how they are doing. This one is a little weird anyway it will shoot almost any bullet with one or two exceptions.
