I tried fitting my cast .458 405 grain FP in a crushed rib like you indicated and they did not seat on the bottom of the sabot. They fit fine in the MMP orange sabots though. I like to shoot the Remington copper jacketed flat point 405 grain out of them sabots. They are a great load with excellent down range energy.

I tried the same thing with my 300 grain Remington .458 semi-jacketed hollow points, with the same results. I could push them firmly against the base of the sabot, but they flared the petals outward slightly. I don't know, they may work OK but they sure don't look right.

Will be interested in the report of your results HuntAway.

I might have to get some orange sabots. A buddy of mine sold his 45/70 and gave me 4 1# coffee cans full of cast bullets.

HuntAway

I think you are really gig to like them... you are actually shooting a rifle bullet instead of pistol bullets...

They sure work for me....

You lucky dog!!!

Would the cast bullets be flaring the sabots because they are slip fit bullets and maybe slightly larger than .458? Just popping that out there.

There was a question about Pyrodex and T7 energy. I have some Pyro RS and T7 FF. I'll fire a few over the chrny on the weekend to see what happens.

The wife isn't going to like the Pyrodex smell though.

Ah what the heck, I may even throw some FF & FFF Goex just for poops and giggles. The 245 XTP's are going to get a work out with the Traditions E Bolt.

She's really not going to like the Goex smell.
