Default Shooting the BP-Xpress

Have any of you ever shot a BP-Xpress from Ultimate Firearms?
I have had mine for three years and have killed 7 bucks with it at ranges of 70 to 350 yds and all of them were knocked off there feet and diden't get up. This muzzeloader can handle five 50gr Triple 7 pellets and a 275 gr Fury bullet. I shoot it with four Triple 7s with the Fury bullet for whitetails. With four 7s you get 2600 fps and sighted in dead on at 200yds it will drop about 12in at 400yds. The primer systemis fired by using a 45 Mag Colt brass with aLarge Mag Rifle primer that makes it possible to compleatly burn 250gr of Triple 7. The barrel is 28in stainless and it has a Howa bolt action . If you can shoot it will give you 4 to 5in groups at 500 yds. This rifle has been used to kill all the big 7 Aferican animals and all of the bears of North America, also it is a deadly Elk and Buffalo gun. You owe it to yourself to check out there web site at Ultimate Firearms Inc. In my opinion this rifle is the Ultimate muzzeloader you can buy.

While I am sure you make good use of your rifle... the average shot in my neck of the woods is well under 100 yards. So the ability to shoot 200 or even 300 yards is of little or no use for me. I also have no need to shoot 200 grains of powder. I've been killing the deer around here with 80 grains more or less, for many years, and dead is dead. For my kind of shooting even my simple $89.00 CVA Staghorn Magnum is more then enough rifle, if I decide to use that. I would see no need to spend the kind of money for a rifle like yours, but to each their own. Hunt with what you like. It makes no difference to me.

Perhaps if I hunted or lived in an area where my shots were longer, or I could even target shoot at such extreme ranges, then you rifle might be of interest. It would be fun to target shoot with something like that. What other loads does it shoot that well? What kind of scope do you wear on something like that?

But... good luck with your rifle. It must be exciting to hunt with such a powerful muzzleloader.

I hunt in Kansas ,Iowa, Missouri and live and hunt in Michigan. In Kansas and Michigan a 300yd shot is common and in Michigan I hunt on several power lines were you can shoot a long way in either direction. Other bullets I have had good luck with are Horandy 250gr SSTs and TCs 250gr Shockwaves. I have it topped with a 4x10 Leoupold 50mm scope.

That sounds like a very nice set up. It's interesting that the rifle shoots so many loads well. That does say a lot for the quality of the rifle.

Like I mentioned.. if I hunted in an area where such shots were available, I could understand the practicality of such a rifle. I think before I went that route though, I would get a Savage ML10 and just learn to close the distance to say 200 yards. That is another rifle that really has my interest.

Although my Black Diamond XR will shoot 200 yards they claim, I have never tried. I did shoot a paper plate at 150 yards, and could have just sat there with the shooting sticks and loaded that plate with holes, once I learned the hold over.
