I am going to buy the savage muzzleloader for my dad so he can hunt with me in the local controlled hunt in dec. he took me on my first bow hunt for deer when I was 11 in michigan and taught me everything I know. 26 seasons later he in almost 70 and doesnt hunt much anymore but i convinced him to apply with me for the hunt. that being said I am going to use my hawken with black powder but i want something deadly with a scope since his eyes arent what they used to be and open sights will be a blur for him. (not that my hawken isnt deadly dont get me wrong). I own a savage 7mm that i leave in BC and i guess what Im looking for is advice or reports from you guys that own one. I really want to get him a deer this year. I got him a deer a couple of years ago, he shot a 8 point out of my canoe in the local river with his bow, but thats another story.
thanks in advance wicket
ps i did a search of old posts and from what I can tell they are good rifles.

I have a Savage ML the 10ML Stainless, with a black stock. I like it very much because it is so accurate and is able to shoot smokeless (I have an Omega and a Knight Disc also, both are excellent guns also, just not as accurate as the 10ML). The best prices were just postedover on the Doug's Savage Board, here:

I think your father will love the Savage, since it is pretty maintenance free and so accurate, most Savages shoot 1.5" at 100 yards out of the box.
BestWishes in getting your dad a rifle. Chap Gleason
