I went and shot the 58cal Renegade today. My load is 120gr FFG with a .570 roundball. It was shooting really good at 50yds. At 100yds it was not that great. I just need practice though. It is hard with open sights. I am excited for elk. I tried a shot just standing with no rest and nailed a bowling pin at about 75yds! I also shot 2 of the 525gr Great Plains but then we had to go. And I did not want to lead the bore. They sure make the gun kick! This is gonna be a good rifle. Last time I shot with Mink Oil and this time with Hoppes 9. It did not shoot any different.

It will be interesting to hear your elk hunt report... That is a massive load you are shooting. A .58 caliber with 120 grains of powder would floor anything you want to shoot. Good luck elk hunting.

Next time I am going to try some more 525gr Hornady Great Plains. I want to try it with 120gr FFG.

525 gr with that much powder??? Watch out for the men in the white coats, they might want to come and take you away.. You're insane shooting that kind of load. [>:] OUCH!!! But then if you can stand the recoil and its accurate you could hunt everything from deer to dinosaurs.

I actually was gonna shoot that load last time. I put 120gr FFG down the barrel but the conical got stuck mid way down the barrel so I had to blow it out. Then we left.

By the way, there is a guy on another forum, he has a 58cal Hawken and shoots a 535gr Maxi Hunter with 135gr FFG!
