Default RANGE DAY

Went to the range today with my new Knight Long Range Hunter. This was my second trip. Today's goal was to give 3F Loose Triple 7 powder a try with the Barnes TMZ bullets. Cayugad said to push them hard-so I did. I shot 120 grains of powder and group was just under one inch(50 yards) with four shots(outside to outside). I then went down to 100 grain, and 90 grain load. The 4-shot groups opened up a bit with 100 grains, and then even more with the 90 grain load. Then I decided to try 130 grains of 3F Triple 7. The group tightened up to under 3/4 of an inch-four shot group-outside to outside. Probably around 1/2 inch center to center at 50 yards. I was pretty happy with that group, but 130 grains of 3F Loose Triple 7 is a pretty hot load. Pretty good day at the range. Only one called flyer, and it was only out about 1-1/2 inches. I am going to cast some bullets and give that a try next. But I must admit those Barnes bullet's shot pretty good. I need to stretch the distance out next.

I shot the Remington BP 209 primer's. No crud ring what so ever. not even a high spot. I also tried some of the Butch's Bore Shine Black Powder Solvent. It worked real well. IMO it is a keeper. I ran one wet patch and two dry patches between each shot. Overall a great shooting day. Tom.

That is a beautiful looking rifle.. and a good shooter to boot. Now all you need do is have some fun and shoot loads to develop the best the rifle can do. Nice shooting there. Also, I'd hate to be on the receiving end of the loads you were shooting. Nothing could stand up to those kind of loads.

I do not mind the heavy loads. The rifle is a very heavy rifle to start with. Carry weight is not a concern to me. Since I am a handicapped hunter I ride my Kawasaki Mule to all my hunting sites, and the Mule can not tell how heavy the rifle is. The Mule allows me to get out and hunt like I use to do. I wanted this rifle because it is suppose to be a good long range rifle. I have not determined if that is true yet. But I will soon figure it out. I just booked a 4-Day ML hunt in Ohio(Dec. 27-30). So I will have to really get her ready. I have not named her yet, but I willl figure out a name pretty soon. That 130 grain load did kick a little, but if it shoots-I will live with it. this is not my fun rifle to shoot-it is my serious hunting rifle.

Anybody have any ideas for a good name. Tom.

Keep shooting that 130gr load and you'll be calling her "Thumper"...

I've got one of the original Discs, with the 22 inch barrel...I shot a
150 load with a 300gr Barnes....ONCE...My buddy laughed at me,
knocked my hat off...

Sounds like some good shooting. Bet you didn't have to look at the primer to see if the firing pin hit it when you shot.
I tried 120 grains of T-7 behind 2 1/2 oz of shot in my Knight TK-2000 shotgun. Decided real quickly that a lighter charge would be better.

I agree with you on Butch's Black Powder Bore Shine. It's a great product. Anyone who has not used it should give it a try.
