Default More testing

I've been having so much fun looking for the "perfect" load and charge from my Encore Pro Hunter thatI just ordered some more goodies to try.

I ordered an assortment of Dead Center sabots ranging from200 to 260 grains.

I also ordered a couple hundred Sub Bases and plan on testing these as well.

I also ordered some of the Dead Center DUPLEX rounds which feature a .357 caliber 195 grain PTS bullet. They look very exciting and I'm anxious to try them!

Having read enough from many of you here, as well as on other forums, I've also decided to take your advice and try testing some loose powder so I picked up some Triple 7 FFG. I'll test numerous charges with the powder as well as Pyrodex and APP JSG pellets.

Do any of you have any experience with the Dead Center rounds and/or the Sub Bases?

Many years ago when I first got my Black Diamond XR I shot Silver Lightening 300 grain made by Precision Bullet, the makers of Dead Center. They shot excellent. I was shooting 110 grains of Triple Se7en at the time. The only reason I stopped shooting them was because of their cost. They have actually became a reasonable priced projectile now, when you compare them to some of the others out there. I had no hunting experience to report on.

As for the sub bases, I have a couple packs of them as well. I tried them with a lot of different loads. The only time I found them to really make a difference was when shooting maximum velocity charges. For powderloads 100 grains and less they really did not do anything. When I shoot a light projectile with 120 grains in my Knight Disc I used them and whether they helped I will say the rifle shot about the same with or without. Now I was told that some of the smokeless powder shooters get some better groups using them. I have no Savage so I can not test that theory...

Good luck with your rifle and new loads..

Don't want to mislead anyone. As I mentioned above in my post.....

That is the manufacturers grouping photo, not mine. I simply want to try them and wondered if anyone here had? Personally, I'm not expecting to be that impressed with them. I'm expecting better performance from their standard PTS line of sabots. I'm still not expecting either to dethrone my 260 Shockwaves, we'll see?

I tried the 195 and 240PB in my encore (50 Cal)but didn't get any real small groups. But useing the sst,sw 200,barnes 195,and 200 xtps it would shoot one hole groups at 100 yds.
It shot the 250 sw and sst well also.
The 200 sst and sw did a number on deer but the barnes I just shot one deer with them and it didn't open up so didn't try them anymore.I sold the encore to one of my brothers before I got to try the 200 xtps on deer but they should work great.
The day my brother got the encore I let him shoot a group with the 200 sst's at 100 yds and he even shot a one hole group. He's one that shoots a gun a few shots just before hunting season. So you may want to try these bullets and loads if you want to shoot a 40 cal bullet.I am taking for granted you have a 50 cal since you said 260 SW(250)
The second target is with the 200 sst and either 100 grs or 110 grs of pyro-select,couldn't remember exact.
Hows the trigger on the pro hunter? The reg encore used to come pretty heavy?

If that is 100 yards, that is excellent. Chap Gleason

I have shot a package of them, but I couldn't get good groups in my Omega so I didn't pursue it further. Here is how they shot in my Omega:

http://www.the-gleasons.com/DeadCenter340g.htm

I was a but afraid that they wouldn't make it in the projectile market about 3 yards ago, so I figure I would go with something that was "proven and available"---i.e. a Nosler Partition, which has been a high performance killing bullet for over 50 years. According toToby Bridges, they are he least drop bullet between100 and 200, so if they shoot in yourgun <3" at a 100 yards, work a load up or downand you got somthing in anEncore.Good luck in your bullet selection, it is a big, big choice.
