Default Saturday's shooting

I got to try out the Harvester Sabertooths on Saturday. 100 gr Pyrodex pellets, Sabertooth 250gr, and Remington Kleen Bore primers at 50 yards. I started out with 80gr loose then 90gr loose and although the pattern was OK I got the best results with 2 50gr Pryrodex pellets. I used them all up and this is my last 5 shots. Ignore the holes circled by a ink pen, they are from my last few Barnes Expanders shot about a month ago. I'm impressed with the Sabertooths, I know Frontier Gander had some issues with them but they preformed well out of my CVA Wolf. They load as easy if not easier than Powerbelts. Still gonna try the Barnes Expanders MZ with some different sabots......Have'in a real good time with this muzzleloader though. I should add that I started the last five shots with a clean barrel and there was no swabbing between the shots.

Yeah they do load easier then the powerbelts. I think thats what caused my problem lol. Great shooting. Amazing what a $140 rifle will do with patience and the right load.

Nice group sjs. I really like the crushed sabots. I use them with the 250 and 300g hornady xtp. I'll have to try five shots without swabbing.

WOW!! that is some nice shooting. How long did it take to wipe the smile off after that one?

I was smiling all right. I'm going to order some of the Barnes MZ Expanders and some of the Harvester crushed rib sabots. I may check into the Knight red hots too. I heard they are made by Barnes for Knight and are the same bullets as the Expanders.

good job sjs - wonder what the group would have been like if you swabbed between shots? You'll jave to try that next time you're "in the zone"

I ordered some Harvester Crushed Rib Sabots from Mid South and some Knight Red Hot 250gr bullets from Bass Pro. Every web site I checked weresold out of the Barnes MZ's a few days ago.I understand the Red Hots are made by Barnes and are the same as the Barnes MZ Expanders. It's gonna be a few weeks before I can try these out. The shooting range I use is down by my in-laws about a 1 1/2 hour away. We try to go visit every couple of weeks. I think if these Crushed Rib sabots load easier than the Barnes or Knight sabots with those all copper bullets, I may have settled in on a deer load for this year.
