Default Got the Bushnell DtD 3X9X40 with BDC today

I got the new scope from Cabelas. Again the Cabelaspoints paid for most of it, just had to chip in $11. This was the first Busnell scope I have purchased in over 25 years. I am very pleased with it, in fact, its prettier to look at and gives a clearer, brighter view than my other 2 Bushnell BDC scopes.

I did install it on some see-through mounts. I'm not particularly fond of see throughs, but I bought them to ensure the Scope would mount and to extend the PBR a few yards. Sight height is 2.25 inches and I have to chin it about an inch belowmy cheek(Sabotloader, would be nice to know where you got your comb doo-dads). If I ever make a woodstock for this rifle I will design it with a higher comb to cheek perfectly with high mounts.

Well I couldn't stand it, and took the Apex out. I shot 90 grains 3f Goex and 375 BB SSB. While sighting at 20 yards I did get two chrony measurements. 1430 and 1465 at 20 yards so should be about 1480 fps at the muzzle. Sighted for 1 3/4" at 50 yards. Went to 75 yards and shecentered 2" high in a little less than 1" group. The sun was close to setting and came out from behind the cloud and I had to wait for it too set to continue as it was shining right into my eyes. Stepped out to 110 yards and shot twice. They printed 3/4 " and about 3/4" high. Were supposed to be 1/2" but I'm not going to beat myself up over that.

While the chronys indicated less velocity than the 1510 fps I was expecting the trajectory was very close to the one I had planned, soIinstalled the wheel in the scope. The wheel I installed has no yardage on it, instead it has grads which correspond to clicks. I coded the grads with different color highlighters every ten grads and extended the fifth grad in the middle of each block of color. This way I can quickly go to the elevation adjustment, eg 25 clicks is the middle grad of the third color. I adjusted 10 clicks and moved the targe back to 130 yards.

Fired only one shot and went and got the target. I was 2.25" right and 3/4" high. I was supposed to be 1 3/4" high at 130 w/ 10 clicks but then I can easily miss an 1" or more at 130 yards. Was getting dark so Ijust headed home. The scope is showing promise. Below is the trajectory I am hoping toget out of her. On the right is the number of clicks needed to adjust elevation so that the crosshairs can be pointed at anticipated POI.

Range Velocity Impact Clicks

That sounds like a great setup. Ive decided to keep my x150 scopeless and just pick up an SS/camo CVA optima elite for rifle season.

What is the eye relief on that scope? That sounds like a real nice scope. I will be looking forward to more range reports.

cayugad,

The eye relief is 3 or maybe 3.5 inches, I think. The original place I ordered it said 4.5 inches but Cabelas said 3". If you remember, I had put a simmons 3X9X30 (which was on my 22 mag) for a while. It has almost no relief and it would pop my glasses every now and then, even with 70 grains powder. The difference in quality is night and day and I shot 90 grains all day and never felt too close to the scope like I did with the Simmons (which is really a cheap .22 scope and not designed for use with a ML). Wish I had got the Bushnell scope sooner .

I have a Bushnell DtD on my Black Diamond XR and it is a great scope. I only put the 1.5-4.5x32mm on it but it is really a good clear scope. And the light gathering ability is excellent. I am sure you are going to really like that scope.

Brownells...

MostBushnell 3x9x40's have an eye relief of 3.7 on 9 power as you back off of the power - the relief gets greater

Although according to Bushnell they list it as 4" and I guess if you round 3.7 up it is 4....

I have looked a a couple of BDC scopes and have not made the jump yet. I am still stuck on either a mil-dot or a ballistic reticle, other than varmint hunting I can not make myself beleive that i will have time, on most occasions, to adust knobs - counting clicks, - so the mil-dot or the ballstic reticle in the 3200's works really well for me - truth be told -in a hunting situation I do not think I have used any compensation more more than few times... now @ the range that is a different story.

BDC anything means one anticipates time to range the animal. I figure if I have the time to determine its range, say with a rangefinder,I can spend 2 seconds clicking to the setting for the range. Then, I'll save time sighting by simply putting the crosshairs where I want the impact. I thought you had an Omega with ballistic reticle to sell, did you not like it?

I do have an Omega rifle with a Bushnell Elite 3200 with a ballistic reticle - great combination.... just wish I could afford to replace the 3 Elite 3200's with the dual X reticle with the ballistic reticle. I just bought a Tikka 300 Winchester Mag - gaveaway the Leupold that was on the Weaterby and put aElite 3200 on it, unfortunately it is a dual X, although with the 300 mag it is not much of a handicap...

I have a new Sightron S1 that I would like sell off - so I could get another 3200...

Dang my memory must be slipping, cuz I have this memory of you being confused that I was going to buy a Nikon Omega when I was actually intending to purchase an additional rifle, a T/C Omega. And I have this crazy memory that you sent mea PM saying you had a Nikon Omega you would sell me. Is my memory going or did that happen?
