Default T/C or GMB .58 Flinter barrel?

I couldn't help but notice that Fox Ridge has 1:66 twist .58 cal 1" barrels. Looked to me like they could be had for around $189 which is comparable to a GMB replacement barrel. I'm going to be needing one soon and would like to know how others may lean on this two barrels. Thanks

WOW.. I think I have to call Fox Ridge. I have some questions for them. I'd like to change over one of my Renegade percussion cap rifles to a flintlock with a big bore. This might be the way to go. Or maybe if I purchased a Hawkins Big Bore I could trade out the barrel from the 1-48 to a 1-66 and then have another rifle.

I will bet the barrel on e bay will sell almost the same price as if you would purchase new.
I would go with the t/c barrel but would see if you can purcase it without the QLA . and a slow twist 1in 66
I did purcase a barrel for a gentleman that had a new 50 cal. hawkens barrel with the QLA :He stated he could never get round balls to shoot well and gave up and bought a new GM barrel, funny I also could not get this barrel to shoot RB,conicals it did excellent.

Looks like they only have a Cap Lock in the 58 cal:

Nice price on these barrels. Chap Gleason

I did not know TC had the 58cal in a slow twist. I am going toorder a 58cal GM percussion barrel this month. I would go with the TC if I were you though. They already make it in a flint version. If you go GM you will have to get it converted to flint and Track told me that voids the warranty and makes the barrel over $200. With the TC it is flint in the first place and it has a warranty. It would also be cheaper considering the cost of changing a GM over to flint.

You know I'm probably mistaken. It was a few weeks ago that I thought I saw the .58 1-66 FL barrels there. Everyone seems so surprised about it I fear I am mistaken and I do apologize for getting hopes up for the .58 slow twist flintlockbarrels.

I wonder why neither GMB nor T/C makes a .58 flinter barrelin slow twist? Dang, EVERYONE wants one. Just isn't fair to void the warranty to get one.

Sharpshooter,

What about this idea? Have TOW put together a flinter barrel from the GMB 1" .58 cal 1:70 bare whitebarrel. I would prefer a white barrel anyway as I prefer a browned barrel to a blue one. I wonder if it would cost any less unblued?

Also since the barrel is sold only threaded without a breech plug in place, I wonder if the barrel would be warranted by GMB?

When I wanted a flinter I asked track and it was well over $200 total. They remove the breech and fit it with a flint one. That voids the warrany though. If I were you I would get the TC 58cal flint barrel. The 1-48" twist will shoot roundballs just fine and some nasty conicals if you ever wanted to try some. Plus, you do not have to modify it and void the warranty.

Here is another choice, this will cost a little over $200 to but you can customize it. Tell them 58cal flinter and choose your length and twist. They come in the white so you can brown it yourself. http://www.thegunworks.com/custprodgun.cfm?ProductID=528&do=detail&Ca t2Option=yes
