Default Range report

I shottoday with the Ultra Mag I decided to stop messing around and slap a 3x9 on the Mzleder. I live in utah and we have to stick to 1x or open sights. I wanted to see what shot best before investing range time with open sights, I am on a limited budget. I shot the bullshops at 50 and 100 yards here is what happened. The smaller of the groups was at 50yrds and that huge group was at 100. I just read cayugads post and Iam going to try out some other powders.

What size did you get the Bull Shops' -.504 or .5045. Too hard to reach conclusions on one group at the same range from each bullet but it looks like you need a bit more diameter on the Bull Shops. Might be little TOO easy to load?

These UltraMags seem awfully consistent so far but yours may just prefer something a bit different. Do you have any of the 500 grainers from Dan?

I shot 2 100yrd groups this was the better of the two. The bullshops I have are sized at .504 I talked to bdeather and he thought the 500gr. might work also. I shot some 300gr. xtp's and the shot really well. This is the 50 group with the xtps. I really think these bullshops will shoot I just need to play with powder but who knows.

Your 50 yard groups are very impressive to say the least. The Ultra Mag does seem to shoot it all. I also have shot sabots with really good results. When I shoot Pyrodex P I add a fiber wad between the bullet and the powder. BUT my favorite powder to shoot is the Triple Se7en 3f and the Swiss 3f. Start playing with powders, amounts, and wads and these rifles will amaze you. (There I go pimping them again, C-dad willhate this)

I shoot the 500 grain.504 diameter and yes they do load easy. I have Dan sending me another 500 conicals in 460 grain, some in .503, .504, and .5045 tp play with in the White and somedifferent rifles.

Those UM's are sure a sweet rifle to shoot. And in the place where you live I am sure will see a lot of use. I have LOTS of relatives in Utah. Utah sure is a pretty state. In fact the family used to own a small farm there. Keep us posted.

Looking at your 50 yard groups - then your 100 it is hard to believe thay came from the same gun.

The big difference in the GP's and the Bull Shops, as you probably already know, isit that top ring on the GP's is much bigger and usually requires a short starter to start them, well anyway mine most of then do. Maybe you were achieving more of a consistent gas seal with them.

I am sure you can shoot .504's from that barrel especially a dirty barrel with very good accuracy, but I know whem I was shooting with Cdad I really did not like how loose the .504's were in his barrel. His .5045's were better in my mind.

As you probably know I have not shot any conicals in myWhite, just been shooting sabots with all kinds of different bullets and Triple Seven - have yet to find abullet that the gun will notshoot well. I use MMP HPH-12 sabots everything else is to loose.

After cayugad's testing the other day I think his test results show the consistentcy of T7 - so you might try some of that....

At first i wanted to blame it on on maybe a loose scope, but when you posted the 100 yard XTP group - that kinda ruled that out....

Were you shooting off a bench and bags?

You will get it dialed in - I have faith...

You can sure shoot 'em!!!!! I really like that group with the XTPs!!! You found out about them, eh?

You have it figured out!!!! I commend you.

The weird thing about me is that I shoot better at 100 yards than 50 yards most of the time. You don't seem to.

I'll take that into consideration UC. Those Ultra Mags.. shame the did not make them in a .451 caliber as well.
