I saw a ML barrel on ebay that came off a Lyman trade rifle. It was a .54, same length as the barrel on my .50, etc.
My question is, I've seen replacement barrels for the GPR and GPH, but not the Trade rifle.
Would a .54 barrelfit a rifle built around a .50 barrel?
Or would the actual outside circumference of the barrel be to fat to fit the stock? With the larger bore diameter, wouldn't the barrel walls be kept to aset thickness, therefore making the barrel thicker?
You could check with Lyman but I believe they are interchangable as long as the ignition system matches and they are made for the same rifle. Many companies make different calibers out of the same barrel stock. That is why even though the caliber might be larger in this case, the barrel is actually lighter because of course, more metal had to be removed to make the larger diameter.
Give Lyman a call and ask them. Very helpful people. Their telephone number is 610-756-6271. That is Dixon Gun Works that does all the technical and service work on the rifles. I am sure they can answer the question.

I agree.. that is one reason I like the .54 caliber Renegades because I am able to get Green Mountain Barrels in a number of twists to do about anything I want a muzzleloader to do.

OK, if you are asking if a GPH or GPR, barrel will come down and fit your Lyman trade rifle... the answer is I do not think so without modification. Lyman GPR/GPH both have two underlugs with wedges, your Trade Rifle only has one. I AM NOT SURE, but i do not think the underlugs would align allowing you to use on of the two.
The obvious is that a Trade Rifle barrel from one Trade Rifle to the other will work regardless of caliber. A TC or GM IBS 15/16th's barrel will also fit into the Lyman Trade Rifle with some modification. If it is a newer Lyman there is even less modification necessary....
Just my thoughts....

No, it was actually a barrel from another Trade Rifle. Only it was a .54, mines a .50.
I only mentioned the GPR and GPH because I have seen countless replacement barrels for them, but never for the Trade Rifle.
OK - got it straight now - and then I would tell you the 54 barrel will fit in a 50 cal stock and the 50 will fit in the 54 - if, as Cayugad said the ignition type is the same....
Did not mean to lead you astray....

I had remembered that he had a Trade Rifle, so I had a slight advantage in this thread.
