Default State Dept . Stupidity................

I guess I'm unable to get my GM barrel form Midway[not their fault] through my local gunsmith who has all the necessary import permits here in Canada.Reason being all orders on .50cal or larger are RED FLAGGED and I wanted a .54.If it was 45 0r smaller it would be on it's way.Hard to believe they don't know blackpowder from a .50BMG.Here we can have a 20mm which is .80cal!Canada Customs doesn't have a problem with any barrels 20mm or less ,just not actions. We can have .50BMG single shots as well.Too bad both Govt's arn't on the same page......................not a happy camper...Harold

I would think the person importing the barrel for you would know how to get around the permits and such. I hope you get the barrel you want.

My problem is the State Dept. doesn't like my caliber selection. All the import permits are in order and like I said if it was under.50cal I'd have my barrel.Remove all logic and reason and you have the State Dept......Harold

Pioneer2 -

Here in the great state of Maryland, they've taken to making a copy of our driver's license any time we buy percussion caps, primers or black powder.
However, I can buy a box of shotgun shells without that. Don't they know that BP primers are the same item crimped in the brass of a shotgun shell? They may not but a ner-do-well certainly would. Go figure.

It used to be when you bought .22 caliber shells the clerk would ask you, are these for a handgun? If you answered yes, then you had to show ID and sign a book. If you answered no, they are for a rifle, they would just sell them too you. We still have not got to the point were we have to sign for caps and black powder thank goodness.
