Default DNR deer regulations and projectiles

Thinking about what projectiles I'm going to choose for deer hunting in Iowa with my 50 caliber TC Scout next fall. My current preference, after reading a bunch of info on this site, is
the 200gr Shockwave with 50/40 blue sabot (or the 200gr XTP).

Question for anybody out there that hunts in Iowa. Iowa Deer regulations state that the following muzzeloaders are legal to shoot in Iowa:

"Muzzleloaders: Flintlock or percussion cap muzzleloading rifles or muskets between .44 and .775 caliber shooting single projectiles; muzzleloading pistols .44 caliber or larger with a minimum barrel length of 4 inches and no shoulder stock or long barrel modifications."

Okay, my Scout is 50 cal.. If I shoot a projectile that's smaller than 50 cal (say .40 or .429), with a sabot, will I be legal according to Iowa deer regs? After reading the deer regs above, it seems to me that I would. Anybody else know?
Thanks, Al

Should be fine the way I am reading it. The bullet is a single projectile, and the gun is greater than .44 but less than .77 caliber, so I see no problems.

Later,

Marcial

The rifle does meet regulations, but just to be on the safe side, I would call the DNR and ask them. The reason is, they might judge the projectile caliber as well. In this case, your 10mm or 40 caliber would not meet the requirements. Just to be safe, I would give them a call. Otherwise work up a 250 grain Shockwave. You will not see all that much difference in performance. Granted you will loose some fps, but gain in the energy down range department.
