Well got to get out and shoot the 400's that Cdad brought over this weekend. I also swapped out the sights on the gun and got some fiber optics in place... I bore sighted the gun and headed to the rock pile.
The objective of the trip was to get some velocities + look at accuracy. I was really surprised at the lack of velocity. I guess I was really assuming that I would get a significant setup from the 460's and it did not happen.
80 grains of T7-2f averages 1350 fps with 460's
80 grains of T7-2f averages 1360 fps with 400's
80 grains of T7-3f averages 1440 fps with 460's
80 grains of T7-3f averages 1490 fps with 400's
I was all set to switch from 460's to 400's hoping to achieve a better trajectory, but with what I am seeing I will at the point stay with the 460's, unless someone can point out something I am missing.
I did shoot some @ 90 grains loads also but other than more recoil and smoke did not seem to me that it warranted increasing the powder to 90 for what looks like about 100 fps more.
The 400 did shoot groups real well, although this is only a 25 yard target. I did not adjust the sights at all during this shooting...
