Default 400 Grain Bull Shop's - Strychnine Gravel

Well got to get out and shoot the 400's that Cdad brought over this weekend. I also swapped out the sights on the gun and got some fiber optics in place... I bore sighted the gun and headed to the rock pile.

The objective of the trip was to get some velocities + look at accuracy. I was really surprised at the lack of velocity. I guess I was really assuming that I would get a significant setup from the 460's and it did not happen.

80 grains of T7-2f averages 1350 fps with 460's
80 grains of T7-2f averages 1360 fps with 400's

80 grains of T7-3f averages 1440 fps with 460's
80 grains of T7-3f averages 1490 fps with 400's

I was all set to switch from 460's to 400's hoping to achieve a better trajectory, but with what I am seeing I will at the point stay with the 460's, unless someone can point out something I am missing.

I did shoot some @ 90 grains loads also but other than more recoil and smoke did not seem to me that it warranted increasing the powder to 90 for what looks like about 100 fps more.

The 400 did shoot groups real well, although this is only a 25 yard target. I did not adjust the sights at all during this shooting...

That was one reason I was so surprised at the velocity you were getting from the 460 grain. Looking at the difference in velocity and the accuracy, I too would stick with the 460 grain. In fact maybe try some 500 grain as well...

I offered him some 500s and told him they were the ones Dave likes, but he wasn't interested. Hard headed I guess.

Cdad had some with him this weekend and offered to leave them also, but "old bullhead" turned him down cause he wanted "speed & trajectory." Heck! if I had shot those 500's the next thing Cdad would be pushing the 600' or 620"s - there has got to be a line someplace...

Let me tell you, no deer would stand up to one of those 620s.

I've noticed a substantial difference in felt recoil going from 460 grain Bull Shops to the 496 grain Trashcans. Think Bat might be trying to kill me off?

You guys are giving deer far too much credit. I've taken a lot of them with a simple roundball. Now elk might be a different story for sure. Some day I want to find out with the White and a 500 gr conical.

So are there any objections out there if I draw the line at 460???? Cdadyour vote doesn't count - anyone that would take their hard working wife's car and leave her with yourSuburban with a headlight that was out, while you were out of town, wrestling... I hope she told the cop it was all your fault... and the worst part was you knew the head light was a problem... He tells her on the phone just go out and hot it will come back on.... and you said I was cheap...

A round ball is plenty like I said, that 460 grain would be perfect. That should plant them on the spot.
