Default Anybody watch Jim Shockeys Hunting Adventures?

I subscribed to the outdoor channel this weekend for two dollars a month and started watching my new favorite hunting show.

I am assuming that he uses Jim Shockeys Gold powder, but do any of you know what bullets he uses? Or what scope he has on the Prohunter he uses?

I reccommend getting this channel if you can, its pretty cool. They hunted a lion this week in Africa that had been terrorizing a villiage. They set up a ground bling 44 yds away from a big game animail they shot and were baiting with. Six lions were that close to them, it was pretty cool.

He used to always shoot Nosler Partition bullets. At one show he was commenting on his Nikon scope, but all of that changes so much its hard to tell what they shoot. Shockey used to shoot only Knight rifles. Remember their name plastered on the stock of that Disc rifle he used to shoot. Then he went to the Pro Hunter. I suppose the Triumph will be next.

Well did he get the lion or not? Was it a one shot drop? I would guess he is shooting Shockey Gold powder, but again.. its hard to say what he shoots.

He can shoot all the Shockeys Gold he wants. I won't no more. If I ever have a chance t meet the guy I'll give him about 3/4lb of the crap and he can shoot it up. Didn't work for me.

Actually the show is pretty enjoyable.

When I watch Shockey he raves about hispro hunterand says over and over again how he trust his life on his nosler bullets and leupold optics. But IMO decent show but it seems with Jim MONEY TALKS. last year he was Knight knight Knight and all of a sudden he says the exact same thing about T/C. chaa-ching.

Here is the only bullet that Jim Shockey uses for all his hunting:

http://www.cabelas.com/information/cabelasfieldguides/BlackPowderTechniques/AninterviewwithJimShockeyaboutmuzzleloadersbiggame andhisquestfortheUltimateSlam..html

I spoke to him in person at the Easter Outdoors show 3 years ago about bullet penetration when I was doing my tests on bullets--after a bad PB experience. I started using the same 300g Nosler Partition Pistol bullet he was using. I still do, but will give them up because they are now $1/bullet. I asked him about penetration and expansion and he said that penetration is more important than expansion on really big game, like moose, elk and big bears. I asked him if he shot polar bears with the 300g Nosler and he said yes. I didn't ask him about Lion, because I didn't recall him being a plains hunter in Africa. Maybe he is now. Anyway he is a Nosler Partion guy all the way. I asked why it didn't use a better Balistic Coefficient, and he said penetration and getting closer was his methods and if you had to get closer that was what you had to do. I get his newsletter every month. I would like to hunt with him, but the cost is about $12K for a moose hunt in Canada, way above what I can afford.

Do you ever make decisions based on money for your JOB? We have to remember, that no matter what hunting is to us, it is his job and he has to make a living at it. He is not like some high paid athlete, that can endorse something for money as a side. Endorsing products for money IS his job.

If you have an example of something that is a piece of crap that he endorses just to make a buck, then you would have an argument. However, if he endorses quality products to make a living, I can't see anything wrong with that, even if he changes loyalty from time to time.

Well said Txhunter58. I believe Jim Shockey is a very acomplished hunter, writer and guide and that he reaches his decisions on powder, bullets and guns very seriously. I don't think he would recommend an inferior product. Chap Gleason VA

Well no where did I say that he was not an accomplished hunter or I was looking for an arguement. Look at some of the prices to go on one of his hunts , he is not a suffering man. CHAP when Shockey said time and time again that he trusts his life on his gun(KNIGHT) which was one of the top muzzleloaders at the time and now that T/C is the big boy on top all of sudden when his new season started he now trusts his life on his T/C, C'mon thats money talking. Don't get me wrong I like Shockey and I like his show he is a Saskatchewan, Canada boy like myself but I would bet the farm that if Traditions of CVA offered him a better deal than T/C next season he would be saying how he only trusts his life with his Traditions or CVA. When I say that its MONEY TALKS I don't just mean Shockey I also mean the hunting /shooting world its all the same who has the most money usually ends up on top. ManI remember was I ten years old and I wanted those Micheal Jordan shoes that cost $175 well I got them and did they work any better than my $75 addidas nope. But who cares Micheal Jordan wore them.

Thats cool you got to meet him, I would like to someday. I keep buying these powerball tickets, one of the first things on my list, after quitting my job, is to go on a guided hunt with him.

I saw the Nosler bullets in a package with two different kinds, I didnt quite understand what one of them was, mabye I'll give them a try just for fun.

He did shoot that lion with one shot, it ran within 30 -40 yds or so, and that was it. It was pretty impressive. He did have a guy with him with a .408 bolt with a clip in it for protection if one of the other 5 came after them. I was pretty impressed withthe whole hunt.
