Default knight rifles

I notice that everyone talks about how good the old knight rifles were and how bad the newer ones are. Could someone please explain. Don't all of them have green mountain barrels? What years were the bad ones?
Thanks

The newer Knight rifles are just fine. TC has convinced everyone the a ML that is easy to clean is better. I have an older Kmight BK 92 and a new Knight Master Hunter. They both shoot very well. I also have a Omega Thumbhole that I like but IMHO the Knight has better craftsmanship. I saw the new Knight at the Nashville NWTF program this past weekend. The new rifle with 2 barrels is going to come in around $700 according to one of their people at the Knight booth. I took a trigger pull scale with me. My 2 sons have Pro Hunters. The very best trigger we could fing when they got the Pro hunter was 6 1/2 pounds. The Knight was a smooth no creep 3 pounds. Plus the Knight triggers are adjustable.

shuddup Cdad, I was shooting muzzleloaders when you were in diapers.

It's 71 degrees outside. 35 mph winds though.

RW was impressed by the rifle but his input was only a smallpart of what I think about the rifle. There arefive things I DON'T like about it from the get-go: the flimsy Knight arrow-shaft ramrod with pressed insert (JUNK), the lack of a 2nd thimble, the styling of the pistol grip (might be better than it looks), the non-adjustable trigger (which may be just fine as is),and the safety that protrudes above the hammer (WHY?). I've contacted Knight and told them to change 3 of those items (I'm sure they'll listen ).

The stock looks more likeit would handle the recoil of heavy conicals (compared to Encore) and Knight uses stocks that are generally better than much of their competition, the barrels surely will shoot conicals very well as Knight has yet to fall into the QLA trap and they use good barrels, the action looks well-made and of substance, the rifle will apparently NOT use the disc system (a plus in my book), takedown looks very simple, and the overall lines of the rifle are good (with noted exceptions). The barrel interchange means nothing to me at this point but might in the future. If the rifle points and balances well, Knight could very well have a hit. Besides, the White Alpha seems to be stuck in pipe dream land.

Funny how things go full circle. I finally got out of diapers, then you got back in them. OK, now I'll shuddup.

All kidding aside, thanks for your pre-view of the new Knight. It looks like it comes with 209 ignition. Do you see any chance of it being changed over to #11? Would it be considered "open to the elements" as required in Oregon & Washington?

Since Oldwun owns both TC and Knight I believe you have some valid points but I have to disagree that TC convinced everyone that an easier cleaning ML is better. This happend to come w/a better OVERALL design. I have handled many knights and would agree the high end rifles are nice.
I can't be convinced that the older bolt designs are better by design by any manufactuer. They all leak gas anyway.I personally hate the disc system because it ties you to a part that will make a rifle obsolete.I have notshot one but from visual inspections the disc SHOULD prevent gases from coming back and making that sliding bolt system easier to clean. The design issue that really hurts any bolt rifle is the cleaning, the powder blast upon the scope (except for the older Savage w/ the modules)and the barrel length. The real bell ringer is when you but ANYbolt rifle you pick up and put beside an Omega.Instantly you will notice a 28" barreled rifle the same length as a a 24" bolted barrel. I personally think it is w/o a doubt the best rifle bar none in design. If I wanted to customize a rifle that is one for sureI would buy. I also like the things that are totally the opposite of the Triumph in a break breech. You fall right back into the bolt design in barrel length verses overall length compared to the smaller falling block of the Omega. You also have a group of loyal supporters of break open breech rifles but I just like the clean barrel lines w/ my scope on top. I would have liked to have seen deeperor more flutes on the Omega barrel to help its slightly nose heavyness. If you want a shorter barrel buy the X7 mountain rifle or cut you Omega to 24" which I would love to shoot!
I believe you will be hard pressed to find a better OVERALL funtional design w/beautiful lines when you consider all the points that make a great rifle. I think it will be the benchmark for all ML's in the future.
