Default Ever look at a rifle and wonder.

Needed to restock some reloading supplys and see if Kare would find me a nice shooting iron with good wood for valentines day. She found a bunch of shot guns, which just didn't trip my trigger so I never heard voices calling take me home.
I went and looked that the used Muzzle loaders. A knight Revolution caught my eye as the ram rod was missing. Looked at the tag on it and it read, as is ram rod missing {I think was} $140.00.
Nope didn't buy it Just made me wonder what happened to the ram rod?
Wonder if it was inatentive shooting? Maybe shot it out of the rifle and couldn't find it after?
Wonder why the dealer didn't just put a new one on?
Ever look at a rifle/gun and wonder??

There are lots of rifles I look at and wonder their history. The ones I see in a store are always the ones on a shelf in somewhat ruff shape. Although you can get some excellent deals on the display rifles. Actually I am done with rifles. I want a inlineshotgun and maybe a custom flintlock, but I really do not need another inline or traditional other then a custom.

So now I am at that stage where what I purchase next is to my advantage only. If it is not a GREAT deal then it will not come home.

I wonder about them all the time. I wonder how they got scratched, nicked, and marred. A lost ramrod is not unusual. I once lost one in the woods and never found it.

I wondered about the .54cal T/C Hawken that was hanging on the wall at one of the shops with a tag of $140. It looked new; actually was shot quite a bit apparently based on the box of stuff that came with it (about $60.00 worth of accessories bullets and patches etc.) but was taken care of extremely well. I wondered who would give up a rifle like that. I also wondered how fast I could getmy wallet out to buy it (took about three minutes). I wondered about the same thing about an NEFHuntsman that was on the same wall about six months later and it now rests in my gun safe. The shop does not like to have blackpowder guns there and he takes them in on trade but will sell them for what he has in them to get them out of the shop. Needless to say I stop there often.

I agree with that also. I thought I had a good start then I see what Dave has and think maybe I just got into this sport last week. At least he lives where it is easier to get out and shoot. I have to go to the range and that is a pain. We used to be able to shoot in the desert just a short distance away but according to some legislation from Bill Clinton we cannot use Federal Land for shooting anymore. Not sure when he did that one? At least that is the quote on the sign unless it is a cop-out by the land developers.

I got a good deal on a Remington 1100 20 ga. due to one of these head scratching "defects". There was a saw kerf through the recoil pad and spacer which stopped maybe a 1/16" from getting into the wood of the stock. Word from the gun dealer was the proverbial angry wife who had discovered her husband's transgressions.

Everytime i pick up a used firearm at a show I want somebody to tell me its story. Some of them are bound to have an interesting history. This is especially true for any original M1s or others of the erathat maybe lying around those things.

Yeah, that is strange about the not shooting on federal land. I have been told on several occasions by the game warden and sherrif's department that it is legal for us to go shoot anywhere in the nearby Mark Twain National Forest. I also use a privately owned weapons range on our local military base which is federal land. Go figure how things are so different everywhere.

Boy that is new one on me - I work for the US Forest Service and we shoot on National Forest and Potlatch lands all the time. There are shooting regulations around developed campgrounds, monuments, specialized recreation areas, and etc. Gosh you would have a hard time hunting on National forest if you could not shoot on it.

If they have posted that they are supposeto post the number of the regulation that goes along with the closure. Call the local land manager BLM - Forest Service or what ever and get the ruling...
