Default CVA Bobcat & 245 GR Buffalo Ball ET

Shot this today with 80 grains of RS. I have shot this in the past, but have never chronographed it. I think it is showing some promise, and thinking about using this bullet this year for deer instead of the 370 gr T/C Maxi Ball. Wondering if anyone has chrony'd this load and could post the balistics to 150 yards.

Thanks,

Marcial

245 grain ballet should be a great load for deer. Up to 125 yards maybe but i dont think they will fly out to 150 yards very good. But i think anything within 125 yards is dead if you do your part.

I am not really concerned with shooting deer to 150 with this load, just want to have a chart that far only for comparing with other loads. My personal max right now is about 100 yards. Just wanting the velocities and tables if anyone has them.
Thanks,

Marcial

The velocity should be somewhere around 1500 fps give or take either way. Ball-ets are a good projectile actually and do real well. I've never shot them over 100 yards so I have no idea what they will do at long distance. Also they really knock snot out of a deer.

Thanks Cayugad, I was thinking it would be somewhere in that neighborhood also.

Charlie, I've posted a couple of ballistic charts below. One is the ballet, the other is a .54 PRB. Thought it might be fun to show the similarities in ballistics. You will notice they are pretty close. Both will plant deer no problem. I only ran the ballistics to 100 yards because that is range I like ballets for. But feel free to run them at greater range. The key is accuracy, and if you can accurately place the ballet, you are going to kill a deer, end of story.

I figured velocity in my Apex. But in the Bobcat, it will be closer to cayugads number. Use Pyro P, and you will propell them well above 1600 fps with 80 grains. Ballets love Pyro P.

I would think out to 100 yards anything would be toast. Sounds like a great load. I don't use less than 100 grains powder on deer myself. I don't wanna take the chance of being undergunned. A little extra power never hurt anything.

Well I'd like to think exta power does hurt something, like deer!. Which of the two loads belowdo you like best?

Yeah, that's more logical!

Well, I think its hard to beat 110 grains of RS and a 300 grain XTP. But it is interesting how only 50 grains can legimately take elk and bison (not to mention deer)to 100 yards. That 50 grain load only has about 22.67 ft-lbs of recoil in your Omega. The XTP load it likes has 44 ft-lbs. of recoil in your Omega.
