Default 16 degrees--not good for shooting

Well, I finally braved the cold. I shot my TC Omega at 50 and 100 yards. I shot two 5 shot groups at 50 and then shot a 3 shot group at 100. The 2 groups from 50 were 4 inches. The one at 100 was 3.5 inches. I thought that rather strange[>:]

It was so cold out that my hands just about froze. I didn't wear gloves soI could shoot better. I swabbed about every shot or so and the solvent froze. It would freeze to metal and my hands right away--not fun[&:]

I wasshooting my favorite load of 300 grain XTP's, 100 grains Pyrodex, and the sweet Triple 7 209's. That load is awesome! It's perfect for my gun. I shoot just about an inch or so high at 50 and right on at 100. I'll only buy those 300's now. The 230's-240's won't group as nice.

I know I could have shot better if it wasn't so cold. I'm improving thanks to you guys. I'll get better as I progress, butI don't fair well in the cold.

I'm gonna try different grains of powder and see what it shoots best with but I'm guessing I won't find a much better load.

I'm happy with my shooting today but will keep trying to improve. If you guys wanna see the target pics, let me know.

cold weather can do strange things to groups. Also cold effects us all. Some people do not function good in cold weather. I think you had the right idea with swabbing between shots. Use a windshield washer/alcohol mix and it will not freeze to the barrel. You might find the sabots kind of "sticky" going down the clean barrel.

Pyrodex is usually a real good cold weather powder. Good luck and keep shooting. The post was real interesting... and your right, playing with the powder charge might help a little.

Not strange at all. I would bet your concentration was better on the more distant target.

Did you feel rushed today?Wanting to get another shot off as soon as you could? Cold weather can do that.

Your findings of the superiority of the 300 grain is not uncommon. Your rifle likes the 300'sso feed her as much as she cares to eat of them.

Anyways, I figure acold day at the rangealways beatsstaying in awarm housewishing Iwere shootin.

The sabots were quite sticky going down the bore. Sometimes they didn't wanna budge. I didn't even use a short starter though and I got them all loaded fine.

I was shivering quite badly towards the end--maybe that's why I didn't shoot as good

Yep, the gun went off like a flash every time I pulled the trigger. I'm happy with the Pyrodex.

Not strange at all. I would bet your concentration was better on the more distant target.---That's probably it Pglasgow!!

Did you feel rushed today?Wanting to get another shot off as soon as you could? Cold weather can do that.---Yeah, I did. I made myself load the gun and then warm up beforeI shot again. That seemed to help.

Your findings of the superiority of the 300 grain is not uncommon. Your rifle likes the 300'sso feed her as much as she cares to eat of them--I was looking at old targets of the 230's and they grouped decent but not nearly good enough. I sure will feed her the 300's.

Anyways, I figure acold day at the rangealways beatsstaying in awarm housewishing Iwere shootin--Now that's true there!!! My range is right in our back yard. That's a bonus.
