Default Keith Nose Bullets

Anybody familiar with this bullet:

http://www.bpbullets.com/Keith%20Nose%20HP%20muzzleloader%20bullets.html

and his theory of penetration, expansion and energy transfer?

CHAP

I do not think I have ever shot a Keith Nose, but at one time and maybe even today they were considered one of the better bullets out there.

Here is a blurb from PR bullets...

That's not an all lead bullet is it? Kind of looks like it. How does it hold together at 1500fps?

I've shot a lot of Keith Nose bullets. Hunterman Boolets made me some that shot excellent out of my Black Diamond XR. I have no doubt with their pure lead design they would do a number on about anything they hit. They really open up when they make contact. My friend used some of mine one season and shot a doe with them. The hole that doe had in her, I am surprised she ran 15 yards.

I used to mold and size them for my thunderhawk they are an excellant bullet but if you use pure lead limit your load to 100 grs or less . Lee

Cayugad, Read the center of the page, about his testing methods and such. What do you think of his theory of energy transfer?

Chap, I think to some extent, the need for a full 800 ft-lbs, with a .45 cal or larger bullet, is to some degree exagerated. The important thing is shot placement. If it goes into an area that with quickly kill the animal, one is going to recover their quarry.

If you notice, this keith nose has a generous, even more generous hollowpoint than a Powerbelt. It aids expansion while the rear of the heavy bullet pushes it through creating a devastating wound channel where a significant portion of the bullets energy was dissipated. All of the bullets, from what I could read, were recovered after passing completely through.

The keith bullet, It's been said, has had more development than almost any bullet design out there. It is a proven performer on all types of game.

A friend of mine use to mold them for his 44 mag. One day he got to thinking about how they would work in his ML'er and bought some sabots to try them. Using 80 to 85 gr of powder he got excellent accuracy and on one buck he shot it traveled from the front chest to just under the hide in the back ham, end to end through a nice 8 pointer. It retained about 95% of it's weight. He had moulded it using pure lead and it was 255 grains as moulded. He now shoots a full caliber keith nose bullet very similar to the No Excuses that he moulds himself. He has no doubt about the keith design. His bullets did not have the HP and he feels it is not needed unless the velocity drops below 1000fps. It sure has worked for him.
