Default Hot! 10mm 200 gr Ballistics

Lee

Ran the charts, again I used a "Point Blank Range" of 6" - so you can aim right on and be very close to 3" up or 3" down through that range.... That give the 200 a huge window - I mean huge....

Ding, Ding, Ding. Has any tried the 10mm 200 Gold Dot for accuracy yet? This is getting insane . Which boolit, which boolit?

If only Speer made a 10mm 200 grain Gold Dot - they get close with a 180 grain - but it's ballistics are terrible as compared the SW and not even good as compared with the XTP...

I am not hard to impress and I do not shoot 150 grain loads - but even at my 110 grain loads the 200 XTP is something one has to look at.

I have been monitoring the peole that are using them for hunting and every thing so far has been positive - no blow ups - all pass throughs... Wind and deflection would be the X factors...

How bad is the B.C. for the 180 10mm Gold Dot? Doesn't Speerhave a good reputation for publishing accurate B.C.s? Maybe they aren't as far off from the xtp as their published B.C.'s would lead us to think.

May be so???

The 10mm 180 GD BC .143 Sectional Density .161

The 10mm 200 XTP BC .199 Sectional Density .179

Speer has been pretty up front, but remember BC is a function of velocity and these 10mm were never ment to fly at the velocity a ML shoots them... That is why I am so surprised they hole together....

The only way to get an accurate BC is to get the velocity at the muzzle and the velocity @ 100 yards and do the math...

Well if their profiles were identical the B.C. of the XTP (assuming correct BC of the Gold Dot) would be

BCxtp = (.179/.161)*.143 = .159

But their profiles couldn't be the same. Anyway, don't start with 2 chrony talk, cuz I have been wanting 2 since before I got the first one!

Mike, you know I can't use anything like that over here, so why are you tempting me?[&:]

Please run a .5045 620 gr conical pushed by 120 grain load. I'll use my rangefinder for the long range shots.

My G2 209x45 is sighted in 2.5" high @100 yds, 65 grains weighed T7 FFg (roughly 82 grains by volume), 180 grain XTP, Rem primers. Very pleasant and accurate load in that little rifle - deadly if shots are carefully placed.

Tried it at 220 yards with a slight, variablebreeze and couldn't find my bullet holes. Trajectory is only part of the story.

Maybe I am stating the obvious but a .40 bullet is the same as a 10mm, not trying to be a smart ass. I have been using the 200 grain SW

I here ya. Doesn't take much breeze or much variation in the breeze to move POI and spread groupings . Also doesn't take alot of MV variation to really open a 220 yard grouping. The ballistics calculator I use starts with a 10 mph crosswind. I neverchange that field to zero. I can't learn anything about windage from the calculator if it is set to zero. Oh and then there is boolit instability . . .
