Default Plinking Bullet that is close to Shockwaves...

I have been shooting 250gr Shockwaves for all of my sighting in and plinking, but it is getting expensive. They shoot great out of both of my guns and I want to stay with something similar. Any suggestions?

I use XTP's of the same weight at 100yds the poi is only about 1.5 or less differance and grouping is also close to the same and their is quite a bit of differance in the price; actually I prefer the XTP or Gold Dot for short to medium range and always load SW if I might have to shoot over 150yd.
I am now checking on some rainer bullets which are a copper plated lead bullet which look very interesting to me as I think that for hi-speed say over 2000 fps a flat point round nose may be good for better penatration, I will get some and try them this spring if they look good to me I will post some info. Thanks. These are alot cheaper. I have never shot a .45 cal round so what would be a good sabot to use with these in a .50 cal gun?

I forgot which gun you are shooting and I know I know but it just will not come up in the memory banks....

I am sure that you will need a MMP HPH-24 to load your gun correctly (that is the most common)

You can order your sabots direct from www.mmpsabots.com - give em a call you will probably get Connie on the phone just tell her what gun you are shooting and she will tell you what works...

You also can get the HPH-24's by purchasing TC Mag Express sabots at a local retailer...

or - if you purchase a pack of Harvester EZ load sabots you will be getting essentially the same thing just different company....

If the24 loads to hard for your liking (and it shouldn't) you can move to two other sabots that are thinner...

MMP HPH-3p-EZ (3 petal easy loading sabot comparable to the TC super glide sabot that comes on the new shockwaves)

or

Harvester "crush rib" sabot

I myself prefer the 3p-Ez to the Crush Rib - Cayugad has had great luck with the "crush rib"

Lee, Can you provide a link to the Rainer bullets? They sound very very interesting. The Speer .454 Causkill is a soft point Unicore, same as the Gold Dot, so they are going to fly a bit further than a flat point and because of the Unicore will hold together well. They shoot the same for me as Gold Dots or XTPs and are about the same price. Here is what some ML shooter at Midway said aboutSpeer Unicore .454 Causkill(I have not verified this, nor do I know the person that said it).

Years ago ibought alot of bulk .429 lead bullets from Midway. They are lubed but that does not matter. I use them in Harvester sabots. In my old CVA Staghorn they shoot to the exact point of aim as the240 grain XTP.

Chap

The Speer .452 - 300 gran 454 Casual is a Gold Dot HP

The Speer .451 - 300 grain UCSP 45 Colt HV is a Uni-Core

Neither one of these two will come apart - the difference being in the nose of the bullet - which also effects the BC & the SD.
